This is something I have wondered about.

As a mother of three (adults now, thankfully!), and grandmother of one and half ( arriving next month, we think... moved from looking after old people to looking after grand kids), I can sympathize with a pregnant character. So I can see how the female readership of MM can enjoy the mpreg romances.

But from the perspective of a gay male... is this an " eye roll and pass" sub genre?

While there are gay men who want a baby I don't know any who want to give birth to one. Even if it weren't practically pure fantasy I don't think it would be high on their wish list.

I know a gay man who WRITES mpreg. So yes, there must be gay men who are fond of the genre.

I'm a gay man that gives mpreg books a shot, but I find that most tend to be poorly written and dnf them often. If it's done well I don't mind the concept, the quality of the writing is always what draws me in to a book over everything else.

I always wondered about this! i'm really happy to know that i'm not the only one.

Also, I agree with overdosechillpill. If it's written well, really well, a good book will make time fly by.

I'm a gay guy who loves mpreg, especially shifter mpreg. if you're looking for something a bit better than your average run of the mill twaddle, you should try anything by Austin or Aiden Bates. they're brothers who specialise in MM mpreg. Their stories are well crafted, you actually give a shit about the hot sexy Alphas and their yummy Omegas, and virtually all of their books are HEA. hope this helps, John x

and glad to see there are men who read Mpreg I love it

I recently got something off of amazon that fits this genre - it was free - and I wanted something that was science fiction with romance undertones to it. The first couple of pages are interesting. It's a humanoid alien race, not animal shifter MM though. It seems like it has a promising plot of drama, and not just a erotic wham bam flashforward 9 months later book... I wanted something near the gay/paranormal/fantasy avenue to hold me over till Jex Lane finally pushes out Blood Prince. So I'm just hoping it's a 1-shot story that isn't dragged out into a series.

I've read a few and they aren't a deal-breaker in a story, but I don't actively seek out Mpreg.

I do read it from time to time. Not exactly something I would actively seek out but I do think it's an interesting take on the MM literature route.

I'm a gay man and I enjoy it because its a fantasy yea? And sometimes I really like getting lost in that fantasy. I don't want kids and I would be a terrible parent, but occasionally its nice to think about.

I tried reading an Mpreg novel and tossed it out. We all have different tastes, but for me I not only found it ridiculous but while reading the book, the male (having the baby) was basically written in as a female. Fantasy, yes, but a little too much for my liking.

I too often wondered about this! Happy to note that I wasn't the only one.
I also agree with the comments on a well written MPreg book.
There have been a few where I skipped chapters and fast forwarded to the end because I really dislike that feeling of 'huh, I wondered how that crap ended! But the ones that are well written are so much more enjoyable.

Happy that I am still getting feedback on this. :) One day I will start writing again, and want to keep these things in mind when I do.

Meantime I am grandmother of five, and in these days battling to bring in income, so no time for writing.

But it is good to have the feedback.

I gave reading them a shot, but they're not my cup of tea. Neither is the whole A/B/O dynamic in general, though they go hand in hand 99% of the time.
