Just finished Fruit by Brian Francis and thought it was pretty good. Very much a quirky coming of age story with such wonderful, real life, humor. Found myself constantly laughing out loud and thinking, "oh how I remember going through that too!".

Thought to add my blurb, if a bit late xD
I do like well written plots and the genres: fantasy, historical (well researched), post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, mysteries, thrillers, psychologically challenging stuff, some paranormal, sometimes simple easy-read romances-without falling into something that assimilates a porn movie transferred to a book. I'd rather watch one...

The Company of Shadows by Santino (Sonny) & Ais (Dystopian/Postapocalyptic > Slash / RP)
After Midnight - Santino Hassel (from the IcOS universe)
The Administration series by Manna Francis (Dystopian > BDSM themed)
Secrets Hidden in Silence by Auster Rayne (Sociological > Contemporary)
Rum & Ginger by Eon de Beaumont (Contemporary Romance)
Better than Another Man by H K Carlton (Best Friends to Lovers... or not)
The Knife of Narcissus by Caroline Chand (Historical > Romans)
Scarlet and the White Wolf series by Kirby Crow (Fantasy)
Wolf's Own series by Carole Cummings (Fantasy > Assassin)
Dreams of Fire and God series by James Erich (High Fantasy)
Avondale series by Etienne (Mystery)
Maurice by E.M. Forster (Classic)
Brute by Kim Fielding (Fantasy > Sweet)
Billy's Bones by Jamie Fessenden (Romantic Suspense)
Temptation of the Incubus by S.A. Garcia (Paranormal > Romantic Erotica)
The Rifter series by Ginn Hale (High Fantasy > Assassin)
Lover's Knot by Donald L. Hardy (Historical > Fantasy)
Whyborne Mysteries by Jordan L. Hawk (Historical Alternate World > Suspense)
The books of the Wode (Greenwode and Shirewode) by J. Tullos Hennig (Tales Early Mid-Age > Robyn Hode)
A single Man by Christopher Isherwood (Classic)
My Roommate's a Jock? Well Crap! by Kelly Wade (Humorous > New Adult)
Into this River I Drown by TJ Klune (Contemporary > Psychological/Sociological)
Adrien English Mysteries & The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks by Josh Lanyon (Suspense)
Roads series by Leigh Garrett (Substance Abuse > Contemporary)
Steamcraft and Sorcery series by August(a) Li & Eon de Beaumont (Fantasy)
A Thread of Deepest Black by Finn Marlowe (Shapeshifters)
The Voice series by Sarah Masters (Romantic Suspense/Mystery > Paranormal)
The Meat Loves Salt by Maria McCann (Historical Thriller)
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (Historical > Greek Myth)
Halfbaked Promises & Midnight Muffins by Erika Pike (Contemporary Light Read > Humorous)
Krabat by Otfried Preussler... ah wait, that is not MM but right after *Winter is coming...* a must-read =)
After Ben by Con Riley (Contemporary > Hurt/Comfort)
Stained Glass by Jaime Samms (Contemporary > Substance Abuse)
Vampires series by Michael Schiefelbein (Paranormal > Religion/Vampires)
Aleksandr Voinov is a look worth
He speaks Death by Adrienne Wilder (Paranormal Suspense)

Agree with Truth in the Dark, it's beautiful!

A recent read for me was Superhero by Eli Easton, is a really sweet story, and it surprised me because i don't read stories with teens in high school and all that, so i had my doubts, but is very nice written. So if you are looking for a light, sweet romance, well, there you go.

Another recent read was Rattlesnake, from Kim Fielding. God I love the way she writes!!! Her characters are mature and they have depth, you get to know them and understand their actions because of that.
Other books from this author i recommend are Night Shift, Guarded, and The tin box another fave.

And a must read to me is Isabelle Rowan's A note in the margin. Very original plot, really sensible, with a comforting HEA.

The Bitterweed Path by Thomas Hal Phillips

First published 1949, recently republished. This lost book is an interesting exercise in reading between the lines.

Better Angel by Richard Meeker

"Published in 1933, Better Angel provided one of the few positive images of gay life and became an instant underground classic. Today, it remains a touching story of a young man's discovery of his sexuality in the 1920s and 1930s and is considered to be one of the most important gay books ever written."

Lost Gay Novels - Anthony Slide (2003)
Lost Gay Novels: A Reference Guide to Fifty Works from the First Half of the Twentieth Century

"In Lost Gay Novels, respected pop culture historian Anthony Slide resurrects fifty early twentieth-century American novels with gay themes or characters and discusses them in carefully researched, engaging prose. Each entry offers you a detailed discussion of plot and characters, a summary of contemporary critical reception, and biographical information on the often-obscure writer."

The 2 books mentioned above are both listed in Anthony Slide's book, and are part of an on-again-off-again project of mine to make the best of these lost novels available again.

I just saw haggard's post and was about to mention 'Captive Prince' by S U Pacat.
I didn't see it on the other recommendations, but it's one of the very few M/M stories I've read and I absolutely loved it.
It's a fantasy novel, set in a wartorn world, so beware that it's NOT a sweet story - it has r*pe, child abuse, torture, slavery, you name it.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one who've read Captive Prince. As of the moment, it's the best MM novel I've read. I'm really hoping that my next MM fantasy would be as mindblowing as Captive Prince.

Read anything by Tom Spanbauer:

The Man Who Fell In Love With the Moon
The City of Shy Hunters
Now Is The Hour
I Loved You More'

Tom is a fantastic author out of Portland and is the mentor of Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club et al). His stories will have you laughing one moment and crying the next.
