Gosh, where to start :)

The Tameness of the Wolf series by Kendall McKenna - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/5771850.Kendall_McKenna - is one of my absolute favourites and I don't usually like shifter stories. These are amazing, as is her other series Brothers in Arms - think hot military men and wolves :D

Jordan L. Hawk's - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/6519692.Jordan_L_Hawk - books are a little bit different, steampunk feel, set in a sort of Dickensian New York with magic, familiars, hexes etc. I'm just reading the new Hexworld series, starts with the 13th Hex which is a short story.

Sloane Kennedy's - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/13565650.Sloane_Kennedy - books are all interlinked, there's a couple of M/F at the start but they can be passed over, these are seriously steamy, loads of hot men, bit of crime, bit of mystery, bit of dodgy dealings :)

Riley Hart - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7013384.Riley_Hart - her men are usually a little bit more damaged/angsty but end up with their soulmates, loads of steam.

Cambria Herbert's #GearShark series - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/5298677.Cambria_Hebert - set in the world of underground car racing, the M/F book is also exceptionally good.

Megan Erikson and Santino Hassell's Cyberlove series - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/6879435.Megan_Erickson https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4942228.Santino_Hassell - nerdy men, military men, hot silver foxes, very sexy books.

Samantha Wayland - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4065582.Samantha_Wayland - hot hockey men :)

Avon Gale - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/14237686.Avon_Gale - loads of hot sportsmen, steamy romances, brilliant author with a variety of styles.

N R Walker - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/5819370.N_R_Walker - an Aussie author with a unique voice, lots of really beautiful romances, fairly light on the steam.

Amy Lane - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/151973.Amy_Lane - Queen of the angst!

Melanie Hansen - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/13505006.Melanie_Hansen - damaged military men, scorching sex.

Nicola Haken - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7094294.Nicola_Haken - if you want realism, she's your girl. She'll rip out your heart and then put it back together again with her broken but never defeated men.

Alexis Hall - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7032108.Alexis_Hall - anything by him, he writes poetry in his use of language, his romances are stunning.

Kaje Harper - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4769304.Kaje_Harper - all of her M/M stuff but her free to download Into Deep Waters written for the Love is Always Write on Goodreads is one of the most beautiful and painful books I've ever read. Everyone should read it so they can understand what it used to be like to be gay in a time when it was still illegal to love another man.

And there's probably more, Sierra Riley's Delicious bakery series is good but light on the steam, Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine' PresLocke series, Kindle Alexander.

- The Lure by Felice Picano: Noel Cummings's life is about to change irrevocably. After witnessing a brutal murder, Noel is recruited by the police to pose as a lure for the killer-at-large. Undercover, Noel moves deeper and deeper into the freneticism of Manhattan's gay highlife...until he forgets he is only playing a role. (Amazon)

- Fatal Shadows by Josh Lanyon: One sunny morning Los Angeles bookseller and aspiring mystery author Adrien English opens his front door to murder. His old high school buddy (and employee) has been found stabbed to death in a back alley following a loud and very public argument with Adrien the previous evening. (Amazon)

- Death Trick by Richard Stevenson: A young man has been brutally murdered. The gay son of a wealthy family has disappeared. Now it's up to private dick Don Strachey to get to the bottom of this mess--even if he has to cruise every gay bar in the city to do it. Don Strachey isn't exactly the most sought-after private eye in Albany, New York. In fact, this gay P.I. has gotten to the point of having to write ch...more (Amazon)

Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling

(High) fantasy with necromancers, wizards, lords/knights, archers, thieves, feyfolk, a secret spy society, riddles, war and death and 7 volumes to enjoy endless evenings and nights snuggled up in blankets. At this point I read the first 2 books and the lack of graphic sex is actually rather refreshing even the author packed the very slow-blooming romance between the protagonists nicely into the flow of the plot. They are male but both male and female secondary characters are represented equally which does wonders for the the overall feel and balance of the story. Flewelling understands to tell her story so it unfolds before the inner eye like a movie with suspenseful, unpredictable turns and interesting changes of point of view.

This thread has developed a mind of its own, branching out into categories that could be anything (fantasy, paranormal in all its guises etc), not necessarily MM themed so I'm taking the liberty of reposting my original premis, which is the search for good MM literature, not cookie cutter pap:

I like gay male themed stories that are well written and have something to say. The first two on my list also happen to be extraordinarily good literature, as well as being wonderful stories. I'm not really interested in fantasy or paranormal themes, or books that are basically pornography in words. I find there are few female writers that can get into the gay male mind, but there are two extraordinary female authors in my list: the amazing historical novelist Mary Renault, and Patricia Nell Warren, who I discovered a lifetime ago.

Netgalley.com, you don't have to review on a blog, you can use your Goodreads as your review site.

Pryor Rendering by Gary Reed (1996)

This is a fine first novel by Gary Reed. Character, rather than plot-driven, it is a beautifully told story of Charlie Hope, from the age of about 7 to 16. The story comes alive when at high school Charlie meets Dewar, a year older, and a resident of the local Boys' Home.

viewtopic.php?f=1292&t=1969948

Charlie Hope lives in the dusty, working-class town of Pryor, Oklahoma. In this stunning debut novel glowing with life and character, Gary Reed tells the compelling and hauntingly real story of Charlie's life from the age of seven to the cusp of manhood—and his growing recognition of the possibility of a life beyond the small world he's always known. Charlie's house is heavy with silence and tension. His passionately religious mother fills his head with unlikely stories of his dead father. Only his gruff, hard-drinking grandfather, Chick, offers an alternative to the monotony of life in Pryor. For as long as Charlie can remember, his days have revolved around the rhythms of Chick's bar and his barhopping binges in Tulsa. In a narrative that slowly peels away layers of identity and emotion, Charlie begins to find out the truth about his enigmatic father's death and his mother's past—and to discover the way his own life can touch the perimeters of other lives. When he meets Dewar, a boy in the local orphanage, Charlie finds a best friend at last. But in helping Dewar escape from the abuse at the home, Charlie will come to understand that loving this vunerable young man may mean letting him go free— in a move with the potential to break his heart. Populated with wonderfully authentic Western characters, a setting so palpable that you can feel the dryness of the wind, and a hero so genuine and appealing that he pulls us completely into his world, Pryor Rendering is a dazzling tale about one young man's emotional and sexual awakening to the possibility of a future in a larger world.

Having just read this one, I'd have to put it into my Top 10 Gay MM novels.

The "Captive Prince" Trilogy by C.S Pacat is on my top list of favorites.. It has an AMAAAAAZING plot.
And just like Moniker above, Abigail Roux's "Cut & Run" series is a must read
Then there's the "T.H.I.R.D.S" series by Charlie Cochet (an author with a great sens of humour :D )
And finally there are some authors who are usually a "safe choice" for me because I almost always appreciate their books.. Like "Santino Hassell", "N.R Walker", and "C.Cardeno"
