Some propel I know are into the Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth (only 2 have been released so far) I TRIED to read it. Couldn't get passed the first couple of chapters. Other people enjoy it, so give that a try.

I second this. I could not put that book down. Only bad thing about it is it's a stand alone book, not a series. But at least it does wrap everything up in that one book. I believe it's the author's first novel so I'm hoping to see more from him.

I read it several years ago, but I really loved Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus trilogy. I couldn't put those books down for two weeks.

The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss are really good too. It's a planned trilogy, but only the first two books are out. I did enjoy the first one (Name of the Wind) more than the second one (Wise Man's Fear), but they're both good.

Oh and the Game of Thrones series by George R.R. Martin is another one that draws you in.

Jessica Khoury's Origin for a stand-alone read. For a series, try Across the Universe by Beth Revis (book 3 comes out in Jan. 2013!) or Neal Shüsterman's Unwind series (again, only book 1 and 2 out). As to the Hunger Games, I loved the books, but the movie was so-so in my opinion.

Battle Royale will remind you of The Hunger Games.

Chaos Walking Series by Patrick Ness, Uglies Series by Scott Westerfield and The City of Ember series is good YA. Could be pretty violent the first two.

But if you want a touch-your-heart kind of book that you can read in one seat A Monsters Call by Patrick Ness is really a good one.

My recommendations:

Veronica Roth - [Divergent Series 1] - Divergent
Veronica Roth - [Divergent Series 2] - Insurgent
Veronica Roth - [Divergent Series 3] - coming out in 2013
Girl and boy fight authoritative government with very strange social hierarchy. Not as good beautifully worded as the Hunger Games but more action and more blood than the Hunger Games and one great story.

Kristin Cashore - (Seven Kingdoms 01) - Graceling
Kristin Cashore - (Seven Kingdoms 02) - Fire
Kristin Cashore - (Seven Kingdoms 03) - Bitterblue
Books about strange worlds, strange people, strange animals, strange happenings, all excellent books.

Lauren DeStefano - (Chemical Garden 01) - Wither
Lauren DeStefano - (Chemical Garden 02) - Fever
Lauren DeStefano - (Chemical Garden 03) - coming out in 2013
Forced marriage, running for one lives, sick society (both morally and physically), more tragic than the Hunger Games, however excellent series; a must read.

Ann Aguirre - (Razorland 01) - Enclave
Ann Aguirre - (Razorland 1.5) - Foundation (prequel to Foundation)
Aguirre, Ann - (Razorland 02) - Outpost
Aguirre, Ann - (Razorland 03) - coming out in 2013
This book has absolutely nothing in common with the Hunger Games; except there are kids who fight. More like of the Lord of Flies in post-apocalyptic USA; survival of the fittest is the only fact that counts.

To be truthful I only read a few chapters and felt like it was the Twilight of the dystopian hero/heroine franchise. So simple terms: The Hungers Games is to Harry Potter as Divergent is to Twilight
