I am looking to find additional series for my kids but am clueless. The 4th grader is a girl, and 7th grade is girl and boy. They are avid readers. Artemis Fowl, Twilight, Series of Unfortunate Events, Junie B. Jones, Vampire Academy are just some of the series that they already have and love. Are there any series that would be appropriate for their age and a good read?

For the 7th grader, these are the books my 13 y/o has been into lately:

Young Wizard series by Diane Duane
Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins
The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor

For the 4th grader, try:

The Secrets of Droon by Tony Abbott
Tales of Magic by Edward Eager (these are really old, but they're classics for a good reason)

My 4th grade daughter is enjoying Savvy by Ingrid Law right now, having just finished the first book in the Inheritance Cycle which she enjoyed but wanted a little break from. My 7th grader is enjoying Prodigy, the 2nd book in the Legend series by Marie Lu. Props to my MIL for coming up with great afikomen redemption gifts! :)

Other recent favorites for them (and FWIW, my daughter reads all of my son's hand-me downs happily, although in addition she reads many 'girly' books that my son would have had no interest in)

4th gr:
Witch & Wizard series by James Patterson
The Books of Bayern series by Shannon Hale
The Sisters Grimm series by Michael Buckley
Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld (which my son also read maybe last year or 2 yrs ago)
My Sister the Vampire series by Sienna Mercer
Anne of Green Gables series by LM Montgomery

7th gr:
The Merlin series by T.A. Barron (actually he read these last April)
Hitchhikers Guide series by Douglas Adams
The Giver series by Lois Lowry (actually four books, not everyone realizes this)
Madeleine L'Engle's Time Quintet he read last year too (A Wrinkle in Time is #1)
The Sea of Trolls series by Nancy Farmer

I only have one book that I think would be a great read for both of them. It's called Fablehaven by Brandon Mull.

Oh, Fablehaven is a great recommendation. I read that when my oldest (now a 7th grader) was in 5th grade and he and I both enjoyed it - actually the whole series of them. I had forgotten about them. I will have to give them to my current 5th grader now!

Here's the link to Droon :)
If you wish to know about more books for that age category, just pm me(I am an avid reader of books from a young age and after all I do have a very very annoying sister in that grade and might be able to provide some insight for you ;) )

Doctor Who?

For the Grade 4 girl, The Penderwicks series by Jeanne Birdsall is fun - a friend's daughters who are 8 and 11 both love them.
Maud Hart Lovelace's Betsy-Tacy series is good; although the first two or three books seem to be geared to younger readers, the ones where Betsy and Tacy are older were among my favorite books at that age.
Eleanor Cameron's Julia Redfern books, particularly A Room Made of Windows.
Susan Cooper's The Dark Is Rising series.
I adored E. Nesbit's Five Children and It, The Story of the Amulet, and The Phoenix and the Carpet when I was in 4th grade.
Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons series was also high on my list.

For the Grade 7 boy, I would recommend Robert Heinlein's novels - all of them - and T.H. White's The Once and Future King.
If he likes mysteries, Josephine Tey's The Daughter of Time blew me away at 12, as did Julian Symonds The Blackheath Poisonings
