I am essentially looking for an alternative to spotify connect for streaming local music files. The beauty of spotify connect is the ability to use your phone as a remote and have the android TV (connected to music system) actually play the music.

With the current spotify mod problems, i was looking for a solution whereby i can store music files on my NAS system (external hdd connected to rpi running omv) and using an android phone/tablet tell the android tv box (nvidia shield) which files to play. In essence the phone acts as a remote (like it did when using spotify connect). Ideally the android tv box would handle the local data transfer and data wouldn't go through the phone/tablet.

Any thoughts appreciated.
