I tend to drift in and out of sleep at night. I don't want to check the time by unlocking the mobile. Is there any apps where I can just configure any key so as the time is spoken by the app. Any suggestions?

You don't mention your phone. I have a moto x.

The important part: the always-listening, voice-activated Google Now. For my phone this is available when screen is off, and unlock code is similarly not a problem.

If I say "OK Google now what time is it" the screen will turn on, display the time, and then read out the time aloud.

Of course, this assumes it understood me. But I do this from time to time and have never had a problem recognizing that particular voice command.
