 Requirements: 

W.W. Norton is seeking an Ebook Production Assistant to assist our ebook staff in managing enhanced e-textbook production, making corrections to ebook files, quality assurance, and distribution. The assistant will also write conversion instructions, attend ebook design launches, advise print editorial departments on ebook standards and specs, and track project status by acting as liaison between conversion vendors and the QA team.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
• Attend print book and emedia launch meetings and advise editorial, design, and print production teams on conversion specifications.
• Work with emedia editorial and design to adapt print layouts to reflowable ebook formats.
• Interpret ebook design documentation and write conversion specs to send to conversion vendors.
• Track project status by keeping in regular touch with conversion vendors, in-house QA teams, and the emedia editorial department.
• Occasionally correct errors and implement technical fixes directly in EPUB3 files.
• Work with IT and the help desk to upload ebooks, and occasionally identify and fix problems with our online reader platform.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Employment eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
• Must be able to work full business hours in the NY office.
• 1-2 years of ebook production experience required. Preferably EPUB3 or other enhanced ebook formats.
• Experience managing time-sensitive projects involving collaboration across multiple departments.
• Must be highly organized, disciplined, and self-motivated.
• Must have excellent organizational, verbal, and written communications skills.
• Must have good time management skills, be organized, and be capable of multi-tasking across departments, activities, and projects.
• Must be detail-oriented, making sure that all aspects of their daily activities are handled with accuracy and minimal mistakes.
• Must be self-directed, independent, and proactive.
• Must have a demonstrated interest in the challenges and opportunities of an ever-changing digital publishing industry.

Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud suite (InDesign and Photoshop especially), Microsoft Word, Excel, and FileMaker a must. Working knowledge of EPUB3 specs, HTML5, and CSS3; additional experience with Javascript a plus.
• Experience with CoreSource distribution platform and JIRA also a plus.
