A first novel by Stalbridge author Tom Claver found ebook success after being picked by Amazon for its daily deal choice.
The thriller Hider/Seeker shot up the UK charts of Kindle Store after being selected for the daily deal on Saturday.
By midnight the book was second in the Amazon best sellers top 100 paid-for ebooks for UK crime thrillers, pipped only by The Girl on the Train.
Tom said: "I wasn't certain that it would be chosen by Amazon and I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up on Saturday morning to see that it had.
"But I wasn't expecting to see it jump hour by hour."
The rise was so rapid that Hider/Seeker topped Amazon's Movers and Shakers list for parts of the day based on the biggest ranking improvement.
The ebook also did well in other categories including suspense and general fiction where it reached eleventh place as To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set a Watchman took the top two places.
Tom's thriller revolves around a maverick character, Harry Bridger, who bites off more than he can chew when he goes to the rescue of a wealthy battered wife.
Tom, who moved to Stalbridge three years ago, self-published the book with Matador to see if there would be interest in his work.
