STUDENTS at Mildura Primary School will turn their findings into a digital book after this week hearing dreamtime stories and learning the history behind the local Barkindji people.
The school was selected as one of five across the state to be part of a project by the Sharing Stories Foundation which teaches students about indigenous culture and helps them put together the interactive book based on their local region.
Teacher Jalisa Baldwin said members of the Sharing Stories Foundation spent the week with Year 5 students including a trip to Mungo National Park.
“We had a smoking ceremony out there, walked around the park, took photos and focused on stories of the Barkindji tribe,” Ms Baldwin said.
Students had the opportunity to use a range of different equipment during the week while working out ways to creatively incorporate parts of the local culture into their project.
