The book, called Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined – the cover of which once again pictures a hand holding an apple, only this time, the fruit is green – will be available in hardcover and e-book forms on Tuesday.
In Twilight, Bella has always been the character that needed rescuing. Stephanie Meyer has flipped the tables on her own novel.
“Twilight” fans who declared themselves “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob” will have to rename their allegiance thanks to 400-plus pages of bonus content released today from “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer in honor of the hugely popular book’s 10th anniversary. Since the 12 chapters were leaked, Meyer has put the project on hold and loaded the chapters onto her site where fans can read it for free.
In it, Meyer retells the story, but with a twist: the characters’ genders have been swapped.
That’s right, friends, whether you like it or not, Stephenie Meyer has penned a new version of the story that swaps Edward and Bella’s genders, giving us Edythe and Beau.
It’s nice to see that she still has love for the Twilight saga after all these years. Beau is apparently “more OCD” than Bella was, and is “totally missing the chip Bella carries around on her shoulder all the time”.
Summit EntertainmentRobert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart play the lovers in the “Twilight” films.
Meyer made the announcement on ABC’s Good Morning America, which you can see in the video below.
“I wanted to do something fun for the 10th anniversary and the publisher wanted like a foreword and I thought, ‘Well, maybe something more interesting, ‘” Meyer said on GMA.
The original character of Bella has been criticized in the past for being “a damsel in distress”, which she also addressed. For instance, E.L. James’ latest instalment in the Fifty Shades series, Grey, is exactly the same plot as the original series but from the perspective of the male rather than female protagonist.
“It’s just a love story and it doesn’t matter who’s the boy and who’s the girl, it still works out”, the author said.
