“There’s Something About Sudbury,” one of the 23 essays in the book, provides a tongue and cheek look at the city she grew up in, and is an essay that was first published in Northern Life.
“Northern Life is the genesis of this ebook. It contains three essays that appeared in my humour column, 'Sit and Deliver' for Northern Life,” said O’Connor.
“There’s a wide-variety of subjects in the book. But having grown up in Sudbury, the essays do possess a distinctly Northern Ontario flavour,” she added.
“I grew up in a hockey-obsessed household and I explore this in my essay, 'Kohos Before Bros' where hockey and sibling rivalry go head to head.”
Other, less testosterone-driven material has the humorist exploring theories like Warren Buffet’s secret Beanie Baby stash in “Beanie Baby Economics” and how a second-hand store owner has successfully modelled his small business on the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid, in “Will Close for Cats,” while competitive spirituality is examined in “My Spiritual Journey is Deeper than Yours.”
“I’ve done something a little unusual in terms of launching an ebook. I also launched a limited edition collector set of six mugs featuring some of the humorous sayings from the ebook. After all, coffee and reading go hand in hand,” said O’Connor.
“This project has taken many forms over the years, first as a radio segment, then as a newspaper column, followed by a blog; but it always wanted to be an ebook - with its own line mugs.”
Sit and Deliver is available now and can be purchased at www.shannonoconnor-sitanddeliver.com or directly through Smashwords, Apple Books, and Kobo. The mugs are available on O’Connor’s website or on Etsy at Sit and Deliver, Mug Life.
