Calling it “draconian” and a “punitive intrusion into” its business, Apple on Friday responded forcefully to the Department of Justice’s proposed injunctions against the Cupertino company in the widely-publicized ebook price-fixing case.
A judge found Apple guilty last month of conspiring with publishers on ebook pricing. Apple continues to vigorously deny any wrongdoing. The DOJ’s proposed remedies include terminating Apple’s contracts with the five big publishers at the heart of the case, changing App Store rules on third-party ebook vendors linking to their stores, and the hiring of an external monitor. Calling the DOJ’s proposals “sweeping and unprecedented,” Apple says that the proposed injunction could negative “affect Apple’s business relationships with thousands of partners.”
