Our Favourites, The Pictures We Liked The Best From 2013 is finally available in the Apple iBooks store.

We, the photographers of the Calgary Sun, wanted to give our readers a collection of photos that not only conveyed the top news and sports stories of the year but also showcased a few of the pictures that we shot just because we wanted to, pictures that might not ever be seen otherwise.

But because this is a digital book designed to be viewed on an iPad, we’ve included a few extras.

The first thing you’ll notice is the video interviews. Each of us sat down — reluctantly, in most cases —  and offered a bit of a look back on our year in 2013. (That was really the hardest part of all this. Getting photographers together is much like herding cats.)

Once you get beyond our musings and on to the photos, there’s a couple more extras. To read a little about the photo, just give it a tap with your finger and a box will pop up with the photo information.

And when you tap the little Sun logo, you’ll hear a vocal description of why we like the photo and what was happening as we were shooting.

But our favourite extra is the price — it’s free!

To download our book, click this link on any iOS device or any Mac running OSX Mavericks with iBooks installed.

Or just do a search for Mike Drew in iBooks and the book will appear on a page with our other e-books.

For those of you with Android devices, we don’t have a version of our book for you at this time. The simple truth is that Apple provides an easy way to create an iBook as well as a way to distribute it and we couldn’t find an Android equivalent that allowed all the interactivity we wanted to include.

Please let us know what you think of our effort and we promise that next year we’ll get it done a lot earlier.

Though we may have to hire a cat wrangler to get us together.
