Buy select paperbacks and get the Nook Book digital edition of the same title for $4.99, or up to 70 percent off.

Barnes & Noble on Wednesday announced a new holiday promotion offering discounted eBooks with the purchase of a physical copy.

As part of the deal, when you purchase select paperbacks you can get the Nook Book digital edition of the same title for $4.99, or up to 70 percent off the digital list price. Not as good as a free digital copy, but still a discount.

The promotion is available on a curated selection of titles, including The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, Life of Pi by Yann Marte, Doctor Sleep by Stephen King, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, and The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.

Here's how it works: when you're shopping at Barnes & Noble this holiday season, look for paperbacks with the "B&N Sync Up!" bookmark. Then, when you get to the register and purchase the paperback at the regular price, you'll have the option of buying the eBook for an extra $4.99.

Holiday Gift Guide bugThe access code for your eBook will be printed on your receipt at checkout, or you can get it via email. If you'd like to give the eBook as a gift, ask the cashier for a gift receipt. From there, you can read the book on any Nook device, including the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook or Nook GlowLight , and with the Nook Reading app for iOS, Android, or Windows 8.

Meanwhile, Barnes & Noble also this week launched a new service that lets anyone publish their own professional-quality books. The new Nook Press print service lets you choose between hardcover or paperback, black-and-white or color, and select from a variety of paper choices, trim sizes, and cover treatments. Your customized book will be delivered in about a week, and there's no order minimum, so you can print as many — or as little — as you'd like.
