Things I remember:
A romance book for sure.
As a boy he was rescued accidentally by a thief who saw him chained or locked in the basement. ( I am 75% sure he was sold )
The thief offered his home, fell in love with him but he never reciprocated. ( forgot if it was MF or MM though )
As a man, he sneaks in visits to the thief who became ill ( who died actually )He was rich by this time. ( I forgot why it was a secret )
There was a woman who also became a part of their family. She was the one taking care of the thief, who became the companion & she in turn fell in love with the thief but she knew the thief loved the boy more.
I'm 90% sure it's a contemporary story & that the boy was able to get revenge in the end.
100% sure it is NOT paranormal.
The main hero of the book is the boy but I can only remember bits & pieces. So frustrating =(
