I'm looking for a book I read last February (can't remember when it was published but definitely not more than 5 years ago).
I think this is a cliffhanger.
It is a new adult/erotic romance.
It's the story of a woman late twenties-early thirties who works as a waitress in a posh club.
She meets the hero one evening when she was not supposed to work. He is having a private party and he asks her to join.
After that, they see each other again and he decides them to meet in a flat that he rents or in a hotel (I can't remember exactly but definitely not at her place. He travels often and is not always where the heroine lives).
They have a mysterious relationship. The heroine doesn't know so much about the hero's life. They only see each other when the hero is in town and he's the one who decides when they meet.
I think the story takes place in NYC, Chicago or Boston.
The heroine, I think, helps a lot her sister.
At one point of the book, the heroine thinks he's putting some distance between them.
The book ends when the hero tells her he's in trouble (but without giving any details or explanations) and he has to hide because he's, I think (I'm not 100 % sure about that part) part of a witness protection program.
So he asks her to marry him so she can be included in the protection program too but she refuses because they don't know each other so much and she'd like to know why exactly he has to hide.
She tells him she can't marry him right now so he tells her he'll come back to her when all is over (but it can take months or years).
