Looking for name/author of a crime series, pulp paperback style.
Protagonist is a shooter. I remember one scene where to prove himself he throws a beer can off a ship and shoots it three times, twice in the air and once in the water.
Vague memory that the author was a McDonald possibly George, or maybe the character was George. Internet searches seem to only bring up George McDonald Fraser.
