A while back I came across a novel hoping you the community can help with the title the story I know sounds like battlestar galactica but I am sure that it not.

From what I remember:

set in space
earth has been destroyed and humanity scattered
humans are a endangered species and they have been lied to about the earth being destroyed
does feature aliens
aliens go from being considered saviours and friends to the remainder of the human race to the bad guys

I am not sure if it was a series or not as I only saw one book

Hope someone can help a long shot I know
