I'm trying to remember the name of a book I read. It's part of a trilogy I believe. It has somewhat similar characters and situation as The Unhewn Throne series by Brian staveley.
It has a powerful human like species that interferes in human affairs. Deciding who can fight who etc. They live in their own enclaves where they are served by a hierarchy of humans.
The story followed the POV of one of the species, his main human servant(a woman who understands their language, which is forbidden for humans to know), a street urchin living in the lower class of the species city and an old lady who in the background is organizing an army to once again fight the species despite and because of losing her husband and love of her life to the species in a previous war.
