Would appreciate any help with the title and author of this children's/Young Adult novel.

I first read this story about 30 years ago.

It's a story about 3 children (2 boys and 1 girl) who's somehow on the run from something. They have with them a dragon's egg. Supposedly this egg 'belongs' to the eldest boy. When the egg is hatched, the baby dragon will bond with the person whom it sees first.

The oldest boy was a bit of a bully and cruel, while the youngest boy was a gentle soul. Somehow, events transpired that the baby dragon saw the youngest boy after hatching and bonded with him instead of the eldest brother. The story ended there.

I do not know if there was supposed to be a sequel but it kinda read like the story should continue in another book.

I am almost positive that this book is Children of the Dragon by Rose Estes.
