I found a teaser chapter for a book at the end of another book, but I cannot remember the name of neither for the life of me. It was only the one chapter, so there wasn't much (any lol) world building, but from what I could tell, it feels similar to Sara C Roethle's Bitter Ashes series, Amelia Hutchins The Fae Chronicles, and the ilk: well written, with just enough detail to draw you in and not so much that you lose sight of the story and get lost in it.

Synospis:
The story opens on a female witch. She's from a long line of witches who, at some point for a reason not yet disclosed, at some time in the past summoned a demon that caused a lot of destruction before they finally managed to seal him away; afterwards, the family became responsible for making sure he stayed that way. Our witch reveals that she has a sister who has gone missing, and none of the usual ways to track someone down have worked to help her locate her AWOL sibling, so she decides to do the unthinkable and try to summon this demon to help her track the girl down. Well, despite the spell being very difficult, she manages to pull it off all alone - leaving her incredibly weak from the effort - at which point he pounces her, taunts her, and promptly makes his escape. The chapter closes on a pretty ticked witch! lol

That's pretty much all there is to the chapter (that I can remember anyway), though I have obviously left out some of the more adult bits in deference to younger users here - and it definitely is an adult book. I'm not sure when it would have been published; all I can tell you is that I think I read that teaser some time last year (maybe mid 2016?), and there's a good chance that the book that it was in the back of was either new or less than a year old. Has anyone read this, or heard of something like it? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks for looking! <3

(Thank you for getting me on the right track, Draugr! I don't know how I missed this! >,<)

Series: Love and Magic, by Nadine Mutas
Synopsis from the first book:

Desperate to save her demon-abducted sister, witch Merle MacKenna breaks the law of her Elders. As a last resort to track down the kidnapper, she unleashes another demon, Rhun, from the magical prison of the Shadows. Determined to bind him again after he helps her, Merle vows to keep him tightly controlled. Easier said than done when her own personal demon is hellbent on charming his way into her pants – and her heart.

After twenty years in the Shadows, bound for a crime he didn’t commit, Rhun is past caring about anyone but himself. The plan: Seduce the sexy witch, steal her powers, break the magical leash to her, and then be on his merry way. But when a heinous betrayal in the ranks of the witches forces Merle and Rhun to work even closer together, Rhun’s plan backfires – and the witch he meant to play gets under his skin. With his unbidden feelings for Merle vying with his need for freedom, he struggles with a bitter realization: Being a selfish bastard is a lot harder when love is involved.

Because Bookworm is a compliment and a title, not an insult. Because reading is sexy. Because knowledge is power, and fantasy outlives... everything.
