I have spent ages trying to find the title of the book but nothing I search for comes up with anything the clicks with my memories or rings a bell. So I was hoping some of you may be able to help me out. Forgive me if this is posted in the wrong place or what I do remember about it is too vague.

I dont remember much, I know I never got to finish it. I dont believe it is overly old.I think it was released about 2013ish, give or take a year. I remember that it started with someone walking up to the gates of hell, I believe he may have been a traveling salesman or salesman of some kind and was called down to see a demon about something. I think his name may have been Thomas or possibly the authors name.

Sorry I can't give you any more to go off. Any help would be appreciated.

I would say yes to the comedy I do remember it being humorous. I do believe it was the first in a series and the second had yet to come out at the time. The most I can recall of the cover is that was a yellowy white and the art reminded me of the the white and black Inspector Hobbs cover art.

I did try the library I grabbed it from at the time but they have recently changed their system and deleted all those who hadn't grabbed anything for x amount of years which was me.

The second book in the series has one of the funniest (to me) covers!

There is a starting as you mentioned; the mc, name starts with t, walking to hell`s door to see the head `demon` of hell, the cover art is colored in white and gold... but...mc`s name is takamura, bureaucrat, demon is enma, and it is manga. To be exact; yaoi manga. So, another dead end here.
