Hi, I read a book - a historical romance novel - which i downloaded from this site.
I have forgotten the title (i have so many books, finding it without a title is difficult) but i think i remember the story line. In the opening chapters, at their engagement ball, the heroine's fiance's father read a love letter either supposedly written by her to her lover or vice versa and called off the engagement. If I'm correct and not mixing up my storyline, her supposed lover stepped in to marry her because the letter was in fact written by her former fiance to get at this gentleman.

Please if anyone can tell me the title, i would be glad. Thank you.....

If it's the book I am thinking over, it would be Mary Balogh's "Dark Angel". It has the same fact-pattern you described but it's a little later in the novel.

I thought the exact same thing. It came about 1/2 way thru the book though. It's a regency romance so not a long book though.
