Hello

I am looking for a book, I cannot remember the whole plot, but this is what i remember:
A young girl during a world war, has to cut her hair and pretend to be a boy, in order to protect herself.
I think she was trying to find her father, or family member.

I read this book about 14 years ago, and i dont think i ever finished it.
