I remember reading this book back when I was in high school, unfortunately I don't remember either the author or the book title. So any help with title is appreciated.
Basically the book reminds me of something written by John Saul but after checking all his books I didn't see it there, so I really doubt he wrote it.
Anyways, the story starts with a guy that is totally obsessed with a single woman, who already has a son from a previous marriage. Then a strange phenomena occurred kinda like a (green) fog that covered the small island where they all lived.
The obsessed guy slinks into her house and abuses her (for the lack of better words) and helps protect her and her son from whatever has developed from the fog. She gets pregnant at some point by her rapist.
The story ends with the dude dying (either by the woman's hands or whatever has come from the fog(?), the guy was literally falling apart, both mother and son escape by boat. And along the way while escaping she gave birth to strange glowing eyed baby.
Anyone remember reading this. I'm going crazy trying to remember what it was called. This was sometime in early 1990s btw.
