I can't remember the author, the name of the characters, so I realise it's a long shot, but you never know! I just read too many books (if that is possible) and somehow, the plots have all blended into one big mish-mash.

Genre: Esoteric Mystery, a la Dan Brown, Sam Bourne, Kuzneski...

Set: Starts in London, maybe at the British Museum, or Library?

Plot, as far as I remember: woman working on ancient... bracelet? tiara? maybe, intrigued, gets set upon by nasties who want to retrieve said artefact.

Hero (chap) is a cop (I think, or maybe a PI?) who of course rescues heroine and together they embark into finding out what is the artefact, what it does and why it is so important to the world that it's worth getting killed for.

Now. It doesn't sound any different from another gazillion novels of the genre, but what stood out was the writing, which was well-paced, and funny. I really want to retrieve said novel, and more importantly, I want to find out if more have been published (which I believe was due to happen).

So, any suggestions? Does it ring a bell? I'd be very grateful for any leads!

Wow. That is a very broad description.
Some other things that might help narrow it down:
When did you read it? Was it a much older book, or something newer that's just slipped your mind?
What is the technology in the book like (cell phones/computers or before their time)?
Was there anything that really stood out, a scene, or a place they went to, something that could help identify the book?

2-3 years ago, maybe? Before I got an e-reader and so I used to pick cheap books at charity shops. Up to 5 years maximum. It was a quite recent thing, very much like all the ones that came out post the DVC craze. That's what's driving me potty, I used to read so many of these one after the other that they all blend into one another!

Hello Das Bookster, The book sounds similar to a one I read a while back. I know what you mean when you say that books all blend into one, I had the same problem finding the one you were talking about. Anway, try 'The Hunt For Atlantis' by Andy Mcdermott. I have included a link for goodreads below. Hope this is the one.

I was having a major clear-out of my books (as promised to hubby when I switched to e-books, sniff) and finally found it at the bottom of one of them! Hurray!

For anyone intrigued enough, the author is Robert Finn, the novel is called "Adept", and Amazon tells me there is at least one sequel, called "Ex-Machina", but they don't have it on Kindle, so I am off to try and track a copy. Happy days! :-D
