About 7 years ago, I read a book I think was called Doom of Souls, but it hasn't turned up despite numerous internet searches. Can anyone name the author?
I remember the bad guy (Walter, maybe? With a grey streak in his hair) had a spirit he kept in the dungeons, which he used to kidnap the beautiful princess (Maria?) and he wasn't meant to bother it for 7 years after that. But he did, to ask it to make her love him, so the spirit possibly made the castle collapse on him. He ended up being boiled in lead due to a chance remark by the king.
I actually remember a fair bit of what happened and I'm desperately trying to find it. Help, please!
