Is it based in current world i.e are vampires hiding or known about? or can you remember any of the characters names?

Looking through any of my vampire high stuff, and getting the Richelle Mead, Melissa de la Cruz, PC Cast, and Rachel Caine stuff up

what about "the vampire diary" i didn't remember the author but i know that a tv serie was made of it.
