Genuine question: What's the token ARL thing used for? Does it unlock 'premium' features? Is it generally for non-USA users? Tinfoil hat wearers that don't want to create their own Deezer account?

Unclear what benefit, if any, I would get using the token ARL, as a USA-based user that created a Deezer account with a non-social media email address. I confused.

Dude, you're way off target, for authentication purposes, a developer can generate a key (The token) that is unique for each registered user. This token is sent every time you make a request to a server, and is needed to audit the requests that every user makes, as well as to avoid bots spamming a service. Developers use tokens because unless you know the algorithm used to verify them, they work as an almost anonymous way to validate requests.

In short, a token validates who you are to a server, I don't know what other things Deezer might do internally with the tokens, but it's safe to say they do further processing using it, but so don't use tokens posted by someone else, use your own.

LOL ... that's the "gist" of it. I have been using the same email/password since my trial days(original) and used it for the Deezer mods and Freezer. Never had a problem.
My favorite artists/playlist have followed me in every incarnation.. so this whole ARL token obsession thing is just being driven by "fear-mongers".

This is how you get your own ARL:

Open freezer on your phone. Log in with your email and password (browser) ---> Go to: Library --> Settings (gear icon) --> General--> Copy ARL

I guess I have a follow-up question then; if a token validates who you are to a server, then what difference is there between using a token to log in vs using an email/password to log in?

I don't work at Deezer so I can't give you a definitive answer as to what they do behind the scenes, and while I could dig through Freezer's code to see what it's actually doing, I don't think it's necessary. Tokens are an industry standard for authentication, and I'm pretty sure that once you login with your mail it auto copies your token for you, and then uses that for authentication from that point on. If you use someone else's token, then to the server you are that person. If you were a server admin doing an audit and saw the same user being used by multiple people around the world, you would think that's sus right?. Now, they clearly don't really care since the "bug" is used for this app to work is well known, but maybe they will care tomorrow, and who's to say what actions they'll take. It is trivial to gather the unique ids for the hardware connected and the ban connection from those phones to the servers, for example. Not saying they will do that, but it'd be easy. Since it's piss easy to get your own token, just do that.

Does anyone know the best way to ask the developers of this app to consider adding chromecast support to this app? The ability to cast flac quality is very appealing...cheers.

I always get "please check connection and try again" error mess. Forcing quite and deleting cache fixes the problem but its annoying that I have do it every time I want to use the app
