Thanks!
Is the content presented by this app simply the same as the news for non-subscribed readers on the WP website (without ads)?
Or does it contain all articles as for subscribed user?

@nickoski:

I wasn't sure about this point and came to the conclusion that free users can acess all content, but can only read a limited amount of articles each month.

Can you give me an example of such a restricted article, if possible?

The help desk states:
All readers of The Washington Post web site or apps have access to a limited number of articles every month, and can sign up for newsletters delivered directly through email.
Once you’ve reached your article limit, you will need a subscription to continue reading. The Washington Post offers several digital subscription packages to meet our readers’ preferences.
Additionally subscribers get access too all WP apps. That justifies the price, I guess.

My uploaded app has a full subscription status that bypasses the monthly limit. However, I don't know if it has any influence on subscriber-only articles, in case they exist. I hope we get a reply from a genuine WP subscriber someday.

@nickoski
I'm not sure either but I created a new account and got the message
"Hmmmmm...
We can't seem to locate a subscription associated with this account"

Then, I noticed that I was logged in all the same and "Buy subscription" tab is inactive.
That probably means that this is a working, subscribed version.

@marooned2:

The first message was a reply from the server that obviously doesn't know anything about your subscription. The app however thinks you have one. I hope that is enough to unlock everything :-)

Aha, ok, thanks! So you install the the app you are automatically logged in and subscribed, so that you do not need to create an account and log in additionally?

@nikoski:

You need to create a free account and login first. The app will treat it as a fully subscribed account.
