Crimson Hunger - book 2
In the second installment of Ms. Monaco’s Lone Star Vampire Series, we tag along with Agent Katya Stern of the Texas Slayer Squad. As a Psion, Katya is able to read the energy signatures of vampires and is doing so in every vamp establishment in Houston. By doing this, she thinks she will be able to track the rogue vampire that is killing humans. She’s had no problems and no luck till now but things change the minute she walks into the vamp club Crimson Hungers.
Owner and bartender of the club Rex Fontainebleau is struck with an intense and immediate attraction to Katya. Because of this, he agrees to let her do a reading in his club but adds two conditions. He must accompany her and she must allow him to take her to dinner.
During her reading though, Katya senses another Psion. She has never heard of a vampire being a full Psion but it appears that Rex is an exception. After a freak accident though, the two are bound by their own energy. They can’t go for more than mere moments without touching or else they feel strong pain. Through an accidental collision of their energies, Katya is now bound to Rex as his ruby swan. A swan is a willing blood donor to a vampire but a ruby swan is at the top of the swan hierarchy. Someone with this bond is basically the wife of the vampire and they are bound by sacral chakra which is the seat of sexual energy. It is unknown how long this bond will last but until they figure it out, Katya has to step back from her investigation to stay with Rex.
Before the energy bond, there was a definite attraction between Rex and Katya. Afterwards though, they aren’t quite sure if their physical connection is real or if it has been affected by the bond. Because they don’t know how long it will last, they each face life changing possibilities and must come to terms with them.
Black Pearl - book 3
Black Pearl is the third installment of the Lone Star Vampire Series. This time around, we are introduced to Fey Princess Phaedra. A bit spoiled, Phaedra loves to spend money shopping, clubbing and going to spas. Her father, the king of the Terra Mystica Fey in San Antonio, decides it is high time she learn what life is like in the real world and cuts her off financially...

We finally meet the soon-to-be vampire empress Eden Lockhart. As a dhampire, half human-half vampire, Eden is a rarity among vampires. Dhampires are rare to begin with but for one to live to be a healthy adult is even more unheard of. As a result of her parentage Eden has certain powers and limitations. Among her powers is a very strong control of Earth’s elements and she is able to feed off of fire and energy. Her biggest downfall however is that she isn’t immortal. It may take a bit more to kill her than a normal human but she can die. Which is not such a good thing when it appears that the vampire serial killer is ultimately after her. It is decided that a top notch body guard will be hired to protect her until the killer is caught.
Enter bodyguard/rouge vampire hunter/former Texas Slayer Squad member Cameron Zane. After being kicked off the Texas Slayer Squad for killing a rouge vampire without a warrant, Cameron went independent, hiring his services out to those in need. Normally he does not take jobs protecting vampires but a job is a job and supposedly, Eden is one of the good guys. If there is such a thing among vampires that is. That particular species is not high on Cameron’s list for reasons that he does not speak of often. But, while he has certain opinions of vamps, his dedication to each job is complete and he will protect Eden with his life if necessary. After meeting Eden and spending time with her, Cameron’s attitude towards vampires seems to be changing. He tries to justify this to himself but it is clear that he is falling hard for her.
The danger to Eden intensifies with multiple attempts on her life and Cameron whisks her off to a secret location. But when the killer catches up to them, can they both make it through alive?
