From Lenin to Stalin by Victor Serge
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 8.8 Mb
Overview: Victor Serge, revolutionary and novelist, presents a moving and vivid first hand account of the heroic years of the Russian Revolution and the Civil War and of the years of betrayal of the revolution as Stalin consolidated his power and liquidated his Communist opponents.

Employing a style described by novelist James T. Farrell as "full of passion and vigor," Serge, who served in the early Communist International as an administrator, editor and international representative, recreates the exciting atmosphere of the early years of the Russian Revolution, making the period come alive for the reader.

Serge describes the growth of Stalinism in the Soviet Union, and the struggle against it waged by the Left Opposition to which he belonged. He chronicles the purges, the frame-up trials, and the jailing, deportation and execution of Stalin's Communist opponents.

Throughout it all the author, who was himself jailed, deprived of his Soviet citizenship, and banished from the USSR in 1936, retains his confidence in the revival of Leninism in the Soviet Union, and reaffirms his conviction that the ideals of the early years of the revolution will one day triumph over Stalinism.
