how would this work, where would the tags go? would the tags be genre-related? or keyword-related (like Smashwords).
No longer able to maintain links, sorry.

Each thread would have it's own tags that when clicked would list all books that had that particular tag. Whatever anyone thought belonged would be added. For example a Star Wars book could have tags like Military, Sci -Fi, Space Travel, Fantasy, etc. An example of a website that already does this are torrent sites like Bakabt. You can search for stuff based on a specific subject.

I would like to see the "Genre" tag in ebooks become links so you can find similar ebooks in the same genre.
For example if a book I like is in the zombie genre, i can click "zombie" and it will list all the zombie books in that genre. Of course this requires diligent genre book classification by users but it should be do-able.

I am no longer actively posting. If you find dead links, feel free to re-post.

This would be very helpful and improve SEO. There do seem to have been a few attempts at creating a mod for phpBB that would all tagging but most have been abandoned. I did find this thought which might do the job:
http://www.nanothree.net/2010/phpbb3-topic-tagging/
https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=2104659
It creates a tag cloud that will be filtered by forums. So, if I've understood correctly, if you were in the Sci-fi/Fantasy forum you'd see a tag cloud for: Vampires, Zombies, Military Science Fiction, Urban Fantasy, etc. I'd also assume you could also look in tags for higher level forums so you could find all science fiction novels, collections, romance and porn.
Being able to add tags might also address the suggestion about being able filter the requests:
viewtopic.php?t=786429
However, it has been a long time since I had anything to do with adding mods to phpBB, so don't know how much hassle it'd be and whether the forum would need updating - would the time and effort required to add it be worth it?

I discovered the Search For: option not too long ago ... maybe tags aren't necessary.
