Decatur Road near the Shantytown of Atlanta



This is the place near the Shantytown just outside of Atlanta (Georgia) where Scarlett O'Hara got assaulted in Gone With The Wind (both the book and the movie) on her way back from the lumber mill she owned in Decatur. She fortunately escaped mostly unharmed thanks to the help of Big Sam, the former slave foreman from Tara. But that caused the raid whereupon Frank was shot dead, leaving Scarlett a widow for the second time.

But I'm going to grumble a bit and say Decatur Road is actually a real place, not fictional, even if the events described are fictional.

I agree it's not quite the same thing. But I did check to see if Decatur Road and Peachtree Street were real, and since they are, I put them out of consideration.

If you take a look at chapter 44, the attack ocurred "down the path to the Decatur road" from the mill.
Down the path TO the Decatur road, not ON, IN or AT the Decatur road.
It is true that I also checked the streets and put them out of consideration.
