In Ovid's narrative, Pygmalion was a Cypriot sculptor who carved a woman out of ivory. His statue was so beautiful and realistic that he fell in love with it. Pygmalion made offerings at the altar of Aphrodite, quietly wishing for a bride who would be "the living likeness of my ivory girl." When he returned home, he found that Aphrodite had granted Pygmalion's wish.

Pygmalion married Galatea the ivory sculpture changed to a woman under Aphrodite's blessing.

Starting as a statue, she wasn't a real human, but in the end Galatea became a woman and had children with Pygmalion...

Not as a statue, and obviously not anymore today...

Many evocations of Galatea were made through time in movies, series, opera, musicals and songs (see Wikipedia link), sometimes with a different name, as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady...
