MARCH MADNESS SQUARES FAQ

Since we announced the March Madness Contest, we have received many questions.
I'm sure there will be many more. Feel free to post them in this thread, or send me a PM.
Also, if you have enough information already, there is no need to read through all this stuff.
But since people were asking questions, here is our first crack at answering those questions

#1 JUST HOW DOES A SQUARES POOL WORK?
This was originally posted in the Sticky Thread Ice added to the Contest Forum, but was not published in this thread originally in an attempt to keep things simple. So for those that missed that thread, here is an example of how a box pool works.

Image

We start off with a BLANK 10 by 10 grid.
STEP ONE: People sign up and donate 100 WRZ$ to The Honest Bookie. AND THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO DO. We do the rest. You just sit back and WIN!

STEP TWO: Once we reach the entry time limit, we will take all the people who signed up and start randomly filling in the boxes with their names. In the example, you can see where Ice and I ended up. Just imagine all the boxes have names in them.
Now obviously this works best with 100 people. However, depending on the number of people entered, you will probably get multiple boxes for your one time entry donation.

STEP THREE: We then use a random number generator to assign the numbers 0 - 9 along the top and the side of the grid.

Now, how do you win?
For every game you look at the last digit of both teams score. If your numbers match, YOU WIN.
In this example:
If the final score of a game is 74 to 69 - ICE WINS
If the final score of a game is 68 to 62 - JG WINS

It really is that simple... and there will be 63 games and chances to win. SO EVERY GAME MATTERS!

#2 WHAT ABOUT THE "FIRST FOUR" GAMES (also known as the play in games), WHY AREN'T THEY INCLUDED?
First, what are the "First Four" Games. There are really 68 teams selected on "Selection Sunday" not 64 like they used to have. The eight worst teams in the tournament get to play each other between Selection Sunday and the start of the real tournament on Thursday. The winners of those four games earn the right to be slaughtered in the first round by the 4 best teams in the country. (The games are usually pretty ugly  )
Second, why don't we include them? One of the reasons is tradition. March Madness is one of the world's largest bracket pool contests (remember our Hockey Bracket Contest) If people included the "First Four" games, they would have less time to fill out their brackets. However, that really doesn't apply to this contest since this isn't a bracket pool. The most important reason we didn't include them for this is NOBODY REALLY CARES ABOUT THOSE GAMES. The winners of the games are like lambs led to slaughter in the first round. None of these "winners" has ever beat anybody in the next round. So, due to lack of interest, they haven't been included :D

#3 WHAT ARE THE PAYOFFS GOING TO BE FOR EACH ROUND?
That's a good question and the answer is, we don't know yet. The payoffs will be determined by the final size of the pool.
The size of the pool will be based on the total number of people playing, and the amount of bonus WRZ$ added to the pool by The Honest Bookie. We can say that the for each round, the payoffs will increase, with the Championship game being the biggest and best payoff :D
Which leads us to the next question.

#4 DON'T WE NEED 100 PEOPLE TO MAKE THIS WORK SINCE THERE ARE A 100 SQUARES?
Yes, in an IDEAL WORLD we would love to get 100 people. And based on what we have come to expect for the sports contests so far, it ain't going to happen    Our recruitment goals are based on four levels.
25 people - each player gets 4 squares for their entry
33 people - each player gets 3 squares for their entry (with one square left to possibly increase the pot of the final game)
50 people (our real target) - each player gets 2 squares for their entry
100 people - yeah, right... but would give each person 1 square per entry

If we find ourselves falling short of these goals, we reserve the right to offer people the opportunity to buy multiple entries so that we get the even number we need. It all depends on how many people we can get. This explains the sticky post in this forum. We are trying to expand our entry pool beyond the normal Sports Center Posters to maximize the number of people entered and TO MAXIMIZE YOUR POTENTIAL WINNINGS :D

Those have been the 4 most asked questions so far.
If after getting bored reading through all of this, you still have questions...
POST THEM in this thread or PM ME!

TAMPA, Fla. -- Russell Wilson listened for his name to be announced over the public-address system at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Friday, and he also noticed the crowd reaction while carrying his black Louisville Slugger toward home plate. But what he heard was his father's voice.

Granted a pinch-hit at-bat in the Yankees' 5-4 Grapefruit League victory over the Braves, the Seahawks' quarterback imagined what Harrison Wilson III might be thinking had he been sitting in the sun-splashed seats on this perfect 78-degree afternoon. And because Wilson ripped at the first pitch, he believes that his late father would have approved.

SPORTS CENTER CONTEST #6

AUTO RACING

Keeping with the tradition of sampling all the different sports, Contest #6 will be Auto Racing. Unfortunately, Formula 1 does not start until later in the month, so this one will be a NASCAR Race. (Also known as Stock Car Racing)

INFORMATION
This Sunday at 2:30 PM(Chicago Time) NASCAR will run the “Pennzoil 400” race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. About 28 drivers will take to the track to see how well they can do. Kevin Harvick is the favorite this week, coming off a win in the previous race.

Here are the top 5 drivers:
Kevin Harvick at 9/2 odds (18%)
Martin Truez Jr at 5/1 odds (17%)
Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski and Kyle Larson are all at 6/1 odds (14%)

All the other drivers are going off at odds ranging from under 10% to less than 1%. As in many other events, we will call all other drivers “The Field

What is it?
Your task for this contest is to pick the winner. You have 6 choices, the top 5 drivers and “The Field.” If you win, you share the pool.
Now, to get a 100 WRZ$ bonus, you have to predict how many of the top 5 drivers will finish in the top 5.

How do you play?
To enter this contest, you will need to post the following:
