Mike Mussina Elected to Hall of Fame

Earlier tonight, the Baseball Writers' Association of America voted Mike Mussina into the Hall of Fame, where he will be inducted with Roy Halladay, Edgar Martinez and former teammate Mariano Rivera this July.

STATEMENT FROM YANKEES MANAGING GENERAL PARTNER HAL STEINBRENNER:

"I'm very pleased that Hall of Fame voters recognized Mike's consistently dominant career by honoring him with enshrinement into Cooperstown. While he went about his business in an understated way, Mike was a premier pitcher for almost two decades while competing in the grueling American League East. I'd like to congratulate Mike on this incredible distinction and for his many years of contributions to the Yankees and the game of baseball."

SPORTS CENTER CONTEST #375 TRIFECTA

For Tuesday’s horse racing, we were at Sunland Park, a thoroughbred racetrack and casino in southern Doña Ana County, New Mexico.
The 9th race was the one we were watching today and it was a fast track with a distance of five furlongs on the dirt.

pj so glad that two of the 4 are YANKEES. mussina , as you said just quietly plugged along i was hoping he would get in still hoping for pettitte despite the peds. i just loved watching him pitch the eyes behind the glove. but of course, MO! my guy. and unanimous!

slynch, I got interrupted before I could post my Rivera Hall of Fame (unprecented unanimous election) notice! But everyone already knew what the vote would be!



Mariano Rivera's election to the Hall of Fame Tuesday evening was the least shocking and most predictable baseball thing we've seen in a long time. The dude was no doubt the greatest closer ever and everyone knew that he'd get into Cooperstown on his first go-round.

Instead, the conversation about Rivera's candidacy revolved around whether he would become the first player in the history of baseball to receive unanimous support from the voters. No one, not even iconic and widely beloved baseball figures like Ken Griffey Jr., Cal Ripken Jr. and Babe Ruth, had ever gotten 100 percent of the vote, so people were sure that some writer would leave Rivera off their ballot to make a point.

But that's not what happened. Apparently everyone loves Mo. His family's reaction to the news that he'd been the first player to ever go unanimously into the Hall of Fame was absolutely incredible.
