Para-snowboarder Simon Patmore has won Australia's first Winter Paralympics gold medal in 16 years, taking out the men's snowboard cross SB-UL big final at Pyeongchang.

Patmore, who won a bronze medal in the 200 metre T46 event at the London summer Paralympics in 2012, beat Italy's Manuel Pozzerle to clinch the gold — Australia's first Winter Paralympic title since the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City.

He becomes the fifth Australian athlete — after Michael Milton (six gold medals), Bart Bunting and his guide Nathan Chilvers (two), Michael Norton (two) and James Patterson (one) — to win a Winter Paralympic title.

Tiger Woods falls just short of breaking US PGA Tour title drought in Florida . . .

A massive putt on the penultimate hole saw Tiger Woods come close to winning his first US PGA Tour event in almost five years, before he finished one stroke off forcing a play-off in Palm Harbor, Florida.

Woods, who has not scored a tournament victory since August 2013, drained a 44-foot putt on the 17th hole and needed a birdie on the par-four 18th to finish level with eventual winner Paul Casey.

The 14-time major winner, who has struggled with a series of injuries since his most recent victory, laid well back off the 18th tee and hit his approach from 185 yards to just inside 40 feet.

The birdie chance to force a play-off, however, was two feet short and he finished with a 1-under-par 70 to be tied for second with fellow American Patrick Reed on 9-under for the tournament.

Yes pjmpjm... TIGER IS BACK (and the PGA and the TV networks are loving it)
I was hoping he would pull it off and get to extra holes, but no such luck.
But he did prove he can play competitive golf again, and that's what matters!

And jhj2040... Thanks for your post. Especially the part where you actually quote the new index, giving people who don't know about it yet, or haven't taken the time to click on the link a chance to see what's there.

WELL DONE :D

Sam Kerr's snub from World XI may not be quite what it seems . . .

Six months after being left off the final shortlist for the FIFA Women's Player 2017 award, Matildas striker Sam Kerr has now missed out on the FIFPro Women's World XI.

What more, incredulous Australian fans are asking, does she have to do?

Not one Matilda made the list, despite the team being ranked fourth of 177 nations.

However, what seems like a harsh, inexplicable snub to Australian eyes, may not be quite what it seems.

Footballers, like fans, have short attention spans. There was a major tournament in Europe last year. And that seems to have in part driven the voting patterns.

Kerr and team-mate Alanna Kennedy were on the 55-player long list but failed to garner enough votes, conducted by the world game's players' body, to make the final cut.

Four players on the team sheet come from French side Olympique Lyonnais - Camille Abily (France), Lucy Bronze (England), Dzsenifer Marozsan (Germany) and Wendie Renard (France) - on an 11-season run as French champions and winners of the past two European Champions Leagues.

Lieke Martens, who plays the same position as Kerr and beat her to the individual honour, was a stand out in the Netherlands squad that won the European Championships on home soil last year.

Goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl of Sweden, her compatriot Nilla Fischer, Irene Paredes of Spain and Pernille Harder from Denmark round out a European heavy XI, most of whom had a stellar tournament in the Netherlands.

Kerr is a superstar here. And known and respected in the US. The Europeans appear to have looked inwards rather than without when making their picks. Kerr has scored an incredible 13 goals in her past 10 outings for the national team, during which time she broke a Matildas record of netting in seven successive matches.

And, of course, she was voted 2018 'Young Australian of the Year' . . .

Well... we do try to live by our basic concept "REQUIRE NO ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE OF SPORTS"
Guessing works.
And maybe this will bring in some new players. We have developed a solid core of loyal followers, and for that, WE THANK YOU ALL. Without you, this wouldn't be possible. However, we would like to grow that core.

So... I guess I'm stuck updating the index
No worry, my pleasure

SPORTS CENTER CONTEST #15

LOWEST POINTS

Lowest Points is back! This time, we will be looking at 3 different NBA games.
LA Clippers vs. Chicago Bulls
Detroit Pistons vs. Utah Jazz
Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Atlanta Hawks

INFORMATION
The Bulls, Jazz and Hawks are three of the worst scoring teams in the NBA
Since this is all about scoring, the “odds” don’t really matter. The following is how the teams did in scoring this year: How many points they scored per game, and how many their opponents allowed per game.

GAME ONE
LA Clippers have allowed 108.1 points per game
Chicago Bulls have only scored 103 points per game

GAME TWO
Detroit Pistons have allowed 104.1 points per game
Utah Jazz have only scored 102.6 points per game

GAME THREE
Oklahoma City Thunder have allowed 103.7 points per game
Atlanta Hawks have only scored 103.3 points per game

So remember, you aren’t picking winners or losers… you will just be picking which of these 3 teams scores the least amount of points. Now, if by some chance, you think one of the teams they are playing will score fewer points than any of the three featured teams, you can pick “The Field

And as a special bonus, if you can predict what that lowest score will be, you will get a 150 WRZ$ Bonus. And it doesn't matter if you actually predict the right team to earn the bonus. If you can predict the lowest score in these three games, you win no matter which team you picked.

What is it?
You pick one of the following that you think will score the least points:
BULLS, JAZZ, HAWKS or THE FIELD
You also predict what the lowest score of the night will be.

How do you play?
To enter this contest, you will need to post the following:
LOWEST POINTS CONTEST
Pick one of the four choices
And include your prediction of the lowest score

EXAMPLE POST
LOWEST POINTS CONTEST

Lowest score 90 points

Rules:

ALL PICKS MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO THE FOLLOWING TIMES:
Wed 5:30 PM Chicago (UTC -5)
Wed 10:30 GMT UTC +0)
Or - 27 hours from the time of this post.
Any picks made after this deadline will simply be ignored.
Any edits after this deadline, and your post will be disallowed.

Reward:
As stated before… there are two ways to win:
Correctly pick which team of the four will score the lowest and share the 1000 WRZ$ pool.
Predict what the lowest score in these three games will be and win 150 WRZ$

You don’t have a lot of time to make your picks.
So start making your picks.
