PICK ‘EM

After a long hiatus, we were back to a Pick ‘Em tonight and it was a mini Canada vs. USA contest as the second to last place Detroit Red Wings went into Ottawa to play the Senators, the last place team. Detroit had pulled off a narrow OT win last night but it was anyone’s game tonight…or so we thought…

Detroit Red Wings vs. Ottawa Senators


Detroit jumped out to a 2-0 first period scoring twice in 39 seconds. DeKeyser opened the scoring with a shot just inside the blue line that made its way through traffic. Seconds later. Detroit made it 2-0 as Helm and Martin Frk played a little give-and-go with Helm skating through the goal crease and tucking a backhand past Anderson. Jonathan Bernier stopped 35 shots for his first shutout of the season as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-0 Saturday night. Wings won their third straight and are now 5-2-0 in their past seven games. Craig Anderson made 19 saves for the Senators (19-28-5), who are now mired in a four-game losing streak.
Ottawa has lost its last two games since returning from a nine-day break.

As she noted, 14 people will share the pool

But now, for the bonus winners...

It was a hard job picking the bonus winners
I've been reviewing them all day. Everybody really deserves a reward because every response met the criteria for Pick'em
We were pleased with the results. But unfortunately, WRZ$ don't grow on trees (or do they), so we narrowed it down to 7 winners.

Here are our Seven Winners

We start with some entries that understand the true concept of Pick'em
Pick'em Spirit Many good entries to choose from, but I liked the concept of just using the entire example post = sr55 with "Duhhhhh... I'm NOT picking the Canadian Team"

Pick'em Spirit - 2 And I really like the simplicity of this one = Alessa9 with "Just copying the post before mine."

Pick'em Spirit - 3 An interesting approach = vs9 with "alphabetically, D comes before O."

Serious Award This one was a tough since wellwhocares gave it his best shot, however, my pick went to = abypics with "Detroit finally has a healthy team and has been on the upswing.... Ottawa is still skidding to the basement!"

Foreign Language This was indeed a novel approach. I've never seen a foreign language reason before (and thanks for providing the translation) WordDiva with "parce que j'aime la glace et je parle francais."

Just Plain Silly Many good entries to choose from, but this one made me laugh = phoebess with "Cause it sounds like "Otter... oh, wow!"
