Little-Known Facts about the Olympics

1. Gold medals are actually made out of silver.

2. The Olympics have been cancelled three times, because of WWI and WWII, in 1916, 1940 and 1944.

3. Only five countries have participated in every Olympic Games since 1896: Australia, France, Great Britain, Greece and Switzerland.

4. At least one of the five Olympics colours (red, blue, green, yellow and black) appears in every national flag worldwide.

5. American Eddie Eagan won a Gold Medal for Boxing in 1920, and a Gold in the Bobsled in 1932. No-one else has ever won Gold in both Summer and Winter Olympics.

In another day of windy conditions in Pyeongchang, Olympic women's slopestyle athletes crashed one by one as they competed for gold. Strong headwinds appeared to affect the athletes, as the conditions continued to cause headaches for organisers. Several events were delayed or postponed for safety reasons in gusts of up to 80 kph. It shouldn't be a surprise. The Pyeongchang area is dotted with wind turbines. But it was the windy conditions injured Australian snowboarder Tess Coady believes denied her a debut Olympic appearance and has Australian officials asking questions about safety for athletes.

OLYMPIC CONTEST #4

WOMEN’S SPEED SKATING - 1,500M

Only three nations really have a skater that has a chance at this one: Japan, USA and the Dutch.

Here is what the experts are saying:
Japan is again way ahead, but Richardson-Bergsma and Ireen Wust appear to be poised to give Miho Takagi a run for her money. At the very least the Dutch and the USA may at least challenge for a medal – that’s how the Olympic women’s 1500m Long Track Speed Skating is looking at this stage of the game anyway.

Here are the latest odds.
Miho Takagi (Japan) -125
Heather Richardson-Bergsma (USA) +450
Ireen Wust (NED) +500
Marrit Leenstra (NED) +900
Lotte van Beek (NED) +900
Brittany Bowe (USA) +1400
(As a reminder… minus is good, the higher the better/ plus is not good, but the lower the better)
As you can see, the odds and experts agree. Miho looks REALLY GOOD for this event, but Heather and Ireen have a reasonable chance for the upset.
