I like participating in a contest in which i feel that it is practically impossible to guess the top 3, let alone the exact order in which they will finish. The odds are just a blind and any horse can win. Whenever I am about to choose a winner, I feel the gambling gods laughing at my picks. But I press on, in the hopes that reverse psychology will somehow enable me to pick the right horses. Also, the names are very interesting, sometimes i just pick names that appeal to my current mood, or names that mean something to me. I also used to read Dick Francis books back when I was young, so this brings back memories of those lazy, slow, skipping-class days

Australian PM Calls for End of Cricket Sledging

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has called for an end to sledging in cricket. Mr Turnbull said for the game to repair its tarnished image, harmful incidents like cheating and sledging had to be eradicated from the game.

The animosity in the current Test series between Australia and South Africa, which came to a head with the ball-tampering saga, has featured allegations of personal sledges being exchanged between the sides.

Mr Turnbull said such incidents undermined a game that had been "synonymous with fair play".

"I think there has to be the strongest action taken against this practice of sledging," he said. "It has gotten right out of control. It should have no place. The game of cricket … should be one that once again is held up as a role model."

Hurling is an ancient contact sport which is usually played outdoors. It is of Gaelic and Irish origin. It is also called lomanaiocht, iomaint, and iomain.

This game was thought to be first played in Ireland. It is played with two teams each with 15 members per team. Substitutions are allowed. Both men and women can play the game. (Camogie is the for the women’s game.) The aim of the game is for the players to use a wooden stick, which is called a hurley, to try to hit a small ball which is called a sliotar.

The players try to hit the sliotar between the opposing team’s goalposts; it can either be hit over the crossbar for a point, or under the crossbar, which is defended by a goalkeeper, for a goal, which is worth three points.

The sliotar can be touched by the hands but can be carried for no more than four steps. It can also be struck in the air and struck on the ground with the hurley.

It wasn't even close. Bill Run took an early lead and there weren't even any other horses in view when he crossed the finish line. It was like two different races... Bill Run, and everybody else.

And even with the two of the top horses finishing in the top three, we still had no Trifecta winner... so the pool will increase by 100 WRZ$ for the next contest.
However, since two of the top three did finish strong, only 5 players didn't win something.

Aussie T20 Women's Cricket Player First to take International Hat Trick

Megan Schutt became the first Australian woman to claim an international T20 hat-trick as the visitors beat India to progress to the tri series final.

In a steaming Mumbai, Schutt was red hot with the ball but would likely be the first to admit she also enjoyed some luck capturing the three wickets across two overs.

Having set the hosts 187 for victory, Schutt struck the first blow with the fifth ball of the second over when opener Smriti Mandhana was bowled for three.

Mandhana was wide on the crease as the ball ricocheted off her pads and onto the stumps.

Her dismissal brought Mithali Raj to the crease and a similar result followed, the veteran batter chopping on to a wide ball to exit for a duck.

When Schutt eventually returned from the other end to bowl the fifth over, she enticed a slog from Deepti Sharma (2), who only succeeded in picking out Amanda-Jade Wellington at mid-off.

The hat-trick was complete and left India reeling at 3-26 — a position from which they never fully recovered.

Earlier, in-form Beth Mooney cracked 71 off just 46 balls to get Australia away to a solid start.

Her 114-run partnership with number four Elyse Villani (61 from 42 balls) ensured the Indians would have a substantial chase.

The victory ensured Australia qualified for Saturday's final against England, also in Mumbai.
