Local (Australian) viewpoints during day one . . .

Huge news is that hurdler Sally Pearson has withdraw due to injury. She was a major gold medal contender. Very, very sad . . .

Buses and transport were fiascoes last night for the OC . . . local authorities promise to do better over the rest of the Games . . .

Australian women have just beaten Canada 1-0 in hockey (field) . . .

Everyone is going to be watching Aussie swimmer Mack Horton in about 80 minutes. Will he break a world record or 'only' win gold!

SPORTS CENTER CONTEST #40

Image

DAILY DOUBLE

Now the contests get more difficult :D
We have two events for you in this Early Friday Morning Contest (UTC -5)

(All information was provided by our Freelance Reporter pjmpjm - THANKS Pj)

The first event will be the MEN'S INDIVIDUAL KEIRIN - GOLD MEDAL
This is a bicycle race (I had to look it up ;) )
Then less than an hour apart, the second event will be the MEN'S 4X100 FREESTYLE - GOLD MEDAL
This will be a Daily Double, so you know the drill. You will have to make the correct prediction on BOTH events to win.

INFORMATION
EVENT ONE - MEN'S INDIVIDUAL KEIRIN

Here are the racers:
1 Matthew Glaetzer AUS (22%)
2 Hugo Barette CAN (18%)
3 Jack Carlin SCO (17%)

4 Eddie Dawkins NZL (13%)
5 Joseph Truman ENG (13%)
6 Lewis Oliva WAL (10%)
7 Sam Webster NZL (9%)
8 Stefan Ritter CAN (6%)
9 Jacob Schmid AUS (0%)

As you can see, this will be very competitive. We will make the choice easier.
The TOP THREE represent over 50% of the ODDS.
The BOTTOM SIX represent the rest
So you just have to pick TOP or BOTTOM
If the winner of Gold Medal is one of the Top Three, and you said Top, you are correct

EVENT TWO - MEN'S 4X100 FREESTYLE
Here are the swimming teams:
Australia (50%)
Canada (9%)
England (4%)
South Africa (2%)
New Zealand (1%)
Scotland (1%)
Northern Ireland (1%)

As you can see, this will not be very competitive. So to make it tougher...
Your choice is simple. You can Pick Australia or The Field. Since Australia represents 50%, this should make it fair ;)

What is it?
This is a Daily Double so you will need to predict the outcome of both events to win your share of the pool

How do you play?
To enter this contest, you will need to post the following:
DAILY DOUBLE
Post either TOP or BOTTOM
Post either AUSTRALIA or THE FIELD

EXAMPLE POST
DAILY DOUBLE
TOP
AUSTRALIA

Rules:
You have to pick BOTH events correctly to win
Only 1 post per person for this specific contest, any more and all of your posts will be disallowed.

ALL PICKS MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO THE FOLLOWING TIMES:
Wed 6 AM Chicago (UTC -5)
Wed 11 AM GMT (UTC +0)
Wed 9 PM Queensland, Australia (UTC +10)
Any picks made after this deadline will simply be ignored.
Any edits after this deadline, and your post will be disallowed.
Please note: Due to the time difference, contests will be closing earlier than usual. You will REALLY have to pay attention to the cut off times.

Reward:
If you guess correctly, you will share the 1000 WRZ$ pool

So it's that easy, just pick two right and you win the DAILY DOUBLE

And a not so gentle reminder :D
The Marketing Poll/Contest #3 is STILL open, and thanks to those that have responded
PLEASE, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE :D

Thursday Commonwealth Games Highlights

(from a local perspective)

Mack Horton's gold medal was of course expected. My own guess was that he wouldn't be pushed hard enough to come anywhere near WR times. As it was, the Englishman Guy gave him a pretty good race and won a bronze medal. Aussie teammate McLoughlin won silver, giving the Aussies a 1-2 finish.)

Two WRs have to be the talking point of the day. The Australian men's 4000 metre cycling pursuit team was amazing, as were the women's 4x100 swimming relay team! And, of course, the latter team actually broke their own world record!

Image

And the Australian women's 4000 metre team pursuit team also won a gold, beating out neighbours New Zealand.

England made a very good start to the CGs. (See table of medals below.)

All in all, a good day with mainly good weather all day long.
