For this Thursday contest we were at the 2020 American Express, a professional golf tournament being held January 16–19 in the Coachella Valley in Palm Springs, and a part of the tour's early season "West Coast Swing." Just like we’ve done in the past, we once again divided the top 18 golfers into three groups of 6, and to win we had to predict which group would shoot the lowest score of the Day, i.e. Round 1. Our choices — Group 1, 2, 3, or The Field.

After enduring tough scoring conditions at last week’s Sony Open, the PGA Tour’s annual stop in the California desert is proving to be much friendlier, with well over 100 of the field’s 156 players firing rounds under par.
Usually, over the first three days of tournament play at The American Express, players rotate on PGA West’s Nicklaus Tournament course, PGA West’s Stadium course, and La Quinta Country Club. On Thursday, both Zac Blair and Grayson Murray posted rounds of eight-under-par 64 on two different courses: La Quinta CC and the Stadium course. Blair’s flawless scorecard included eight birdies and zero bogeys, while Murray’s featured nine birdies and a single bogey.
With two golfers tied for the lead we used our standard tie-breaking method…
Working backwards from the 18th hole…Blair was on par on the 18th whereas Murray birdied. So, Murray won the tie-breaker, which means The Field was the winner. For the purposes of this contest, it didn’t really matter which one of them was the “official” leader since they both feature as part of The Field but here at Sports Center, we like to be thorough.
