NASCAR SUNDAY

For our Sunday Auto Racing event (postponed due to rain), we looked at the NASCAR Daytona 500 and all we had to do was pick the winner. Like usual we split the top drivers into three groups. Our choices — Group 1, 2, or 3, or The Field.

Considered the Super Bowl of stock car racing, the Daytona 500 has served as the NASCAR season opener since 1982. The 200-lap, 500-mile-long race features 40 drivers on the track of the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach.

Final results:
WINNER - Denny Hamlin
2nd - Ryan Blaney
3rd - Chris Buescher

Denny Hamlin held off Ryan Blaney in a photo finish in the second overtime at Daytona International Speedway after multiple wrecks in the final 20 laps decimated the field in the longest Daytona 500 in history. Hamlin now has won three of the last five Daytona 500s, while giving newly minted Hall of Fame owner Joe Gibbs his fourth victory in the Great American Race. Hamlin also won in 2016 in the closest finish in the event's history. This year's finish took several moments to decide before Hamlin was declared the winner in the second-closest finish in history.

Antti Raanta stopped 25 shots, Conor Garland scored his team-leading 20th goal and the Arizona Coyotes beat the New York Islanders 2-1 on Monday.

GAME TWO
Washington Capitals at Vegas Golden Knights


Going into the third period with a three-goal lead, the Golden Knights surrendered two in the final frame as the Washington Capitals ramped up the pressure, but the Golden Knights never allowed the third goal in a 3-2 victory.
