OLYMPIC CONTEST #8

MEN’S HOCKEY – BRACKET CHALLENGE

Now... for a contest that run over multiple days...

WARNING – PLEASE READ BEFORE ENTERING
We are doing something different this time.
First, you will need to pay into the pool to join
(YES, YOU HAVE TO PAY WRZ$ TO PLAY THIS CONTEST)
Second, you will need to make picks for multiple rounds one round at a time, with only a limited time between rounds.
Third, while there is a little more skill required, each pick will still be a 50/50 guess ;)

The Odds
Here are the current odds for a team winning the Gold Medal
While the odds don’t reflect the chances of any one team vs. another, they do provide you a relative strength for each team.

Olympic Athletes from Russia +224
Canada +275
Sweden +400
Finland +800
Czech Republic +900
USA +900
Switzerland +3,300
Germany +6,600
Slovakia +6,600
Norway +10,000
Slovenia +25,000
South Korea +25,000

As you can see, there are really only three top teams. Finland, CR and USA fall into the second tier. Germany, Slovakia and Norway fall into the next tier. And frankly, Slovenia and South Korea are the ultimate long shots with little hope of winning.

What is it?
This contest, you will be picking the winner of 12 different games, one round at a time.

How do you play?
To enter this contest, you will need to post the following
MEN’S HOCKEY – BRACKET CHALLENGE
I’m in and I’ve paid my 75WRZ$ entry fee (this only has to be paid once)

You must pay your bet amount to the The Honest Bookie @ SportsCenter.

How? Go HERE and push the 'donate' button. Then transfer your bet amount (75WRZ$) to SportsCenter and The Honest Bookie will hold your bet for you. Meet the Honest Bookie…
Image
If you don't pay the Honest Bookie, you picks will be ignored

Rules:
Points will be awarded for each game you get correct in each round
(We will not be picking any of the play in games since they are already in progress)
Round 1 - 4 Playoff Games – 1 point for each correct pick (4 possible points)
Round 2 - 4 Quarter Final Games - 2 points for each correct pick (8 possible points)
Round 3 - 2 Semifinal Games - 4 point for each correct pick (8 possible points)
Round 4 - 1 Bronze Medal Game - 6 points for picking the winner (6 possible points)
Final Round 5 - 1 Gold Medal Game – 8 points for picking the winner (8 possible points)

If you were to pick all twelve games correctly, you would earn 34 points (and would probably win the contest ;) )

After the play in games have been complete (the last play in game starts on Sunday 2/18 at Chicago Time – 6:10AM, South Korea – 9:10 PM, GMT – 12:10 PM) we will post the 4 First Round Match Ups. The games will be determined by how the teams in the play in games. (If somebody should see the match ups before we can post them, PLEASE POST THEM so people will have as much time as possible to make their selections.
For the First 4 Rounds you will post:
MEN’S HOCKEY – BRACKET CHALLENGE – Round 1
Game one winner
Game two winner
Game three winner
Game four winner

After each round is complete, we will post the matchups for the next round.
For later rounds, you will post the same (but change the round # and pick the appropriate number of games.

HOWEVER For the final round, since the 8 points will probably make the difference on who wins, and the tie breaker could be crucial, you will send a PM to a "Person To Be Determined Later" (somebody we decide on who is NOT playing in the contest) with your pick and a tie breaker. Your tie breaker will be what you think the total number of goals scored by both teams in the game i.e. 6 goals. If there is a tie in total points, whoever guesses the closest to the total goals scored will win.

Only 1 post per person per game. Any more and you will not receive any points for the game.

ALL PICKS MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO THE START OF THE GAMES
You can not edit your pick after the start of a game. If you do, you will not receive any points for the game.
All start times will be posted when the match ups for each round have been determined.

Reward:
The payout will be determined by the total pool size
¾ of the pool will go to the winner
¼ of the pool will go to second place
And thanks to a very generous and Honest Bookie:
3rd trough 5th place will get their wager back.

BUT, THERE IS MORE
Thanks to a “very special" relationship between Image and Image , our glorious contest manager will add 25WRZ$ (from her own WRZ$) to each wager, making your 75WRZ$ wager, really 100WRZ$ for the total prize pool.

Now… we know this all sounds daunting. But, it’s really not. To make this work, we really need around 15 people to participate. So…

OLYMPIC CONTEST #9

MEN’S FIGURE SKATING - SINGLES

As we've said, there can be multiple contest running at the same time. Since we know some of you won't participate in the grueling and multiple day Hockey Contest, here is something else for you to try.
And nothing is stopping you from playing in both :D

INFORMATION

After the last 50/50 (and heavily weighted to one side) contest, let’s try something with a few more choices.

Here are the Odds (In order of most likely to win to least likely to win)
Shoma Uno (Japan) - 6/4
Yuzuru Hanyu (Japan) - 9/5
Nathan Chen (USA) - 3/1
Javier Fernandez (Spain) - 6/1
Jin Boyang (China) - 9/1
Mikhail Kolyada (Russian) - 25/1
Patrick Chan (Canada) - 28/1
Oleksii Bychenko (Israel) - 28/1
Dmitri Aliev (Russian) - 50/1
Adam Rippon (USA) - 70/1
Vincent Zhou (USA) - 80/1
Yan Han (China) - 80/1
Misha Ge (Uzbekistan) - 150/1

As you can see, the top three are in a class of their own. Depending who you talk to, all three of them have an excellent chance to win this event.
The fourth, Javier, is coming off an injury, or the odds might be better for him. He has a legitimate shot to win, as well as Jin Boyang.
As for the rest… long shots at best. But still, on any given Sunday ;)
I was shocked to see a skater from Uzbekistan… not one of the places I would consider a hot bed for skating.

What is it?
All you have to do is pick the Gold Medal Winner

How do you play?
To enter this contest, you will need to post the following:
