We featured action from the 2021 PGA Tour season on Thursday with the Genesis Open, a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour schedule being played at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California. We divided the top 30 golfers into three groups of 10, and to win we had to predict which group would shoot the lowest score of the day, i.e. Round 1. Our choices — Group 1, 2, 3, or The Field.
Here were the top scorers at the end of the opening round…
Sam Burns -7
Matthew Fitzpatrick -5
Max Homa -5
Wyndham Clark -4
Patrick Cantlay -4
...
Jason Kokrak -4
The Genesis Invitational hosts the strongest field of 2021 to date as the PGA tour makes one last stop as part of its California swing before heading East with some of the biggest stars in the game making their way to the Riviera Country Club to play on the par 71 design.
After the opening round action on Thursday Sam Burns led after 18 holes as he birdied his last three holes to shoot a 7-under 64, which was about seven strokes better than the field average. He had plenty of heat behind him with several top-10 players in the world within a few strokes, including Fitzpatrick and Homa tied for second at 5-under, and a eight-way tie for fourth between past champions Patrick Cantlay and Jason Kokrak.
