Day Five of NBC presents the Toyota Olympics, and for the first time, they were surprisingly less hateful.

But not entirely!

I first started off by watching the women compete in the freestyle sprint. I couldn't help but feel a sense of déjà vu about the whole thing as I tried to figure out what was different then yesterdays. And then it finally hit me. I was watching the recast from 1pm last night on my DVR.

In case your wondering, Jessie Diggins still took the bronze.

So as you might know by now, old habits die hard all around. The Ruskies are up to their old ways again, and this time, unlike in Sochi 2014, they don't have a hole in the wall to sneak out bad urine and blood and replace it with the good stuff. Oh, that hole is still there, it's just no doubt being used by the Chinese and they don't seem to be in a sharing mood. :shh:

Apparently the Team Ice Skating medals ceremony has not happened yet, and its because my favorite little Ruuusian Kamila Valieva took a PID called Trimetazidine which basically helps you pump blood at a high rate, even when your tired. I don't think it's a matter of if she is guilty, just what will happen. Either the USA will move from Silver to Gold and she will be kicked out of the Olympics, or they will overlook it and move on.

I'm not going to excuse it, but no doubt a 15 year old is nothing more then a pawn in the long ongoing Russian doping that has lasted my whole lifetime. It's sad that kids at these Olympics have to compete as the ROC to pay for the crimes of those committed when they were toddlers. But the reality is Russia has no intention of playing fair anytime soon and kids like Kamila will have to pay the bill when the rent comes due come at testing time for schemes not doubt cooked up by her handlers. The sad part is, she clearly doesn't need it. She was definitely capable of winning fair and square and that makes it only even more sad. :(

NBC meanwhile continues with their shenanigans as well.

My day was filled with events that America wasn't even really in it to win, if even competing in the finals at all. After tons of gratuitous footage of Mikaela Shiffrin skiing out, we were informed that we won the Gold in Women's snowboarding Cross. But treated to zero footage. That's right, our first Gold medal match was spoiled needlessly so that we could all watch Mens doubles Luge! So thanks NBC!

Listen I have Peacock, but I naively trust NBC to take care of me. I'm taping it all day. They have one job! Show me the money! Just show me the best that America has to offer and then fill the rest with German Luger's and Nordic skiers if you must. But don't tell me what the finals was! Show me! Sigh! :(

So news flash. German took the two top spots in Mens Double Luge and America took 11th. I'm sure your all shocked! :o

Then we got the Nordic Combined which is ski jumping followed by 6.2 miles of Ski racing. It was like a basketball game. Just tune into the last three minutes on the clock to see the real action. We were never in it to win it, but the end was actually pretty exciting. Six Nordic dudes went hard to the finish line for a German, Norway, Austrian finish. And what about America? NBC didn't even show where we finished. They basically just gave up on us. Thanks NBC!

But if you watched it, apparently coaches can just run onto the "field" and scream at everyone. I mean literally running along side, almost getting into peoples way, screaming in their faces. It's insane! Imagine it at the upcoming Superbowl, Sean Mcvay just ran onto the field during the action and lost his mind and started screaming at everyone while they played. That's apparently this sport! These people are nuts!

By the way, 4 of the top 7 were out due to Covid again. Not the Chinese of course, just everyone else An athlete said "You fear that knock on your door everyday by the Government". Which actually sounds pretty normal for China I guess.

Just keeping it real. 8)

Also in mens skiing featuring no competitive Americans, we saw the Mens Combined which is Downhill plus Slalom. Which is not horrible to watch I guess. Norway's Alex Kilde got Silver, and as he is dating American skier Mikaela Shiffrin, we of course were treated to more gratuitous shots of Mikaela skiing out. SMH. Seriously terrible!

The Mens "Rock Stars" of USA Curling beat Ruuushia. So that was good to hear.

Denmark's Hockey team got their first win ever in the Olympics. That didn't sound right, but apparently there is only six million people in Denmark, so OK, fair enough, go Denmark!

We also continued to lose at Speed skating, so it was business as usual. Terrible!

The Mens 1500M was Chaos though. Ten people competed in the finals in what did not turn out to be the total chaotic craptastic clown show I was hoping for. And get this! The Chinese got a penalty! I naturally looked outside to see if Hell froze over. Canada took silver in it. Show offs!

And the Americans took fourth in the 3000m relay, or as I like to call it, last place! Sigh!

And then we were finally treated to Women's Snowboard Cross!

Sike! The repeated Mens Big Air from yesterday! Bastards!

But at least America finally had some really nice outings to talk about.

In the evening they did finally show two whole minutes of Women's Cross, lucky us, and we got to watch the final run where Lindsey Jacobellis finally got her gold. As we have all been so painfully reminded of for almost twenty years now, Lindsey famously blew her Gold in 2006 when she showboated at the end, wiped out, and ended up with Silver instead. NBC naturally treated us to more footage of that bad day of hers, then the whole sport entirely. Once again, thanks NBC! Keep up the good work!

I will say that I am super happy for her. She's like the Tom Brady of Cross, if Tom Brady's whole career was summed up with one mistake instead of everything else he accomplished. Actually she was like the Leon Lett of snowboarding, and now she can finally be the Tom Brady of Snowboarding, like she deserves. I'm super happy for her!

Snowboarding is just fun to watch period. When I was young in the 80's, probably 98% of the population didn't even know what it was, and some mountains banned it all together! So to see it come this far is pretty cool. Also, I think our jackets are the best looking. There like black and white camo or something close to that. I'd buy one.

Then we got more snowboarding action when Chloe Kim went for the Gold. I for one was worried, but she wasn't! She literally took the gold on her first of three runs and destroyed it with a 94.00 even. No one else could even come close. It's crazy that she is only 21 in a sport that you can compete in well into your 30s. I mean we could see this "kid" in like four more Olympics! She's like the Micheal Phelps of Women's Snowboarding. She's just way above everyone else, and is literally the best in the world. And Chloe is super cool and well adjusted too. It's actually quite refreshing to see someone like her in a world where every other kid on social media is a Ahole brat.

So if you didn't have the pleasure to see it, I'll clue you on in. She put the smack down with twin 1080s, which is something no one else could do consistently, and that made everyone else crack. They went from having no falls in the first round, to half of them wiping out in the last two runs as everyone tried to compete for the silver and bronze.

And then in true American fashion, right after her win, we were treated to a commercial featuring Chloe Kim, with footage we just saw, already inserted in. American capitalism at it's finest! Terrible!

So finally we got to the steak of the night, the second night of Mens figure skating. I know you wouldn't think someone like me from Texas who grew up roping and riding and gunslinging on the range, as I like to claim to everyone, would be a huge fan of this sport, but I appreciate the athleticism and artistry, so get off my back about it!

American Jason Brown came in at sixth and ended at sixth. He skated to a John Williams score from a movie. Star Wars or Indiana Jones you ask?

Nope! Schindler's list??? What! Interesting choice Jason!

Moris of Georgia, that's the country, not the state, went next, and was followed by Korea's Moris Kvitelashvili, man what a name, and then two time Gold Yuzuru Renu went all out to try and climb back in, but he failed to land his quad axel, a jump no one has seen him do, so I guess that made sense.

I mean he says he can do it, but no one has seen it? Am I not right? I'm not being a hater here, honest. I mean they claim he can do it, but they can't prove he can do it. Sounds like my 100% real claim that I once took Scarlett Johansson out for drinks, but whatever. He did move into first though, and for awhile, looked like he might pull out a medal.

Then his teammates went and that did him no favors. Shoma Uno and Yuma Kagiyama went and put up solid performances, and for about five minutes it looked like a dream scenario of a Japanese sweep.

And then Nathan Chen went and woke them up from that dream and put them back into reality.

As I'm sure you know, he put on a masterclass in skating, got a 332.60 and the gold! 22 points better then silver. He's the son of Chinese immigrants, and he went back to China, to bring back to the USA a Gold medal. And unlike Gu, can still vote!

OK, now that was me being hateful. But real

I will say that I found his song choice of Elton Johns Rocketman to be an interesting choice. I wonder if there isn't like a list of songs and then you just pick from them? Like the lesser skaters probably comb through the films to find interesting choices, but then the top skaters listen to like a comp tape and figure it out? Because it's hard to imagine Jason Brown watching Schindler's List and going "That's the song I'm looking for for the Olympics!". And Yuman of Japan skated to a Hans Zimmer song from Gladiator, and I guess he could have seen the film, but it makes more sense that someone else found it and put it on a list. Hmmm Not sure, but this is what I was thinking as I watched this sport take place. This is the stuff going through my head.

Also, the way they talk about the deductions is screwy. For instance, when Yuzura Renu in the first skate a few days ago failed to do his jump, they called it a two point deduction. But he also failed to get any points, so it was actually a 15 to 20 point hit! Even if you fall and get some points, you don't get them all, so it's the deduction plus the amount you failed to score. It just seems weird that this occurs to me and not the pros who call the game. I fell it's disingenuous to call it a small deduction when it's really a massive point hit.

My mom is snowbirding down here with me for a few months to avoid the winter up North, and she goes "Maybe you should tell them that.", as if I have the ability to call Johnny Weir and go "Dude, your saying it wrong!" Man my mom cracks me up!

We also got to see our first medals ceremony. Not sure why NBC is being so stingy with them. Yeah we just now got some golds, but so what. Can't we get a one minute shot of someone getting a silver? They should be showing one each day if we can. NBC is just the worst! Did I mention that? You should check it out though on Youtube. The way the Chinese guys flick the flags out before raising them was pretty cool. We should steal that. To bad there was no wind. They just hung there. Why no wind machines Chinese! You can coat the mountains in snow, but have no wind for our flags! Just sayin!

Anyway, it was a fun day and night of the games, America moves into fourth on medals ahead of Canada, because we have more golds, HAHA, and hopefully I can stay ahead on my sleep for Sunday which is going to be the worst. Superbowl plus the games. Terrible!

Bye
