I recognize I am my demonstrating my profound ignorance by saying this - but it really does seem that all of the sliding sports pretty much seem about the same as if all the athletes simply threw a bowling ball down the chute and they timed whose got down first.

Minus of course, the chance for death. I find I am watching this with the same ghoulish interest I bring to NASCAR races.

"THE GRID"

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY IS HERE :D
It's time to reveal the Super Bowl Squares Grid

Image

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?
This will be the grid that determines who wins and who loses
The numbers on the left represent the potential last digit of the Cincinnati Bengals Score at the end of each quarter
The numbers on the top represent the potential last digit of the Los Angeles Rams Score at the end of each quarter
NOTE: the number represents the last digit, so a 7 = 7,17,27,37 and so on :D
If your name is in the box, you "own" that team/number combination

HOW MANY BOXES/SQUARES DO I HAVE?
Since we had 50 total players sign up...
Each player has 2 squares (2 sets of numbers)
This brings us to 100 total squares :D

HOW DO I READ THIS?
Let's take a look at the upper left hand corner of the grid.
You will see "hayeonj"
hayeonj's numbers are: Cincinnati Bengals row is number 9 and her Los Angeles Rams column is number 9

HOW DO I WIN?
The score at the end of each quarter will produce three winning combinations:
-The actual score
-The reverse score
-The actual score +2 to each team
There will be a total of 12 winning combinations

HUH?
Here is an example on how to win
EXAMPLE SCORE AT THE END OF THE FIRST QUARTER
Cincinnati 3 - Los Angeles 7

FIRST WINNER - The actual score = irathomas
If you go across the Cincinnati #3 until you get to the Los Angeles Column #7, you will see irathomas

SECOND WINNER - The reverse score = mistaya
For this, you just reverse the teams score ;)
If you go across the Cincinnati #7 until you get to the Los Angeles Column #3, you will see mistaya

THIRD WINNER - The actual score +2 to each team = divamo
Since some number combinations simply suck, this is a way to improve your numbers. You just add two to each of the teams score. So, this Cincinnati 3 - Los Angeles 7 example score now becomes Cincinnati 5 - Los Angeles 9
If you go across the Cincinnati #5 until you get to the Los Angeles Column #9, you will see divamo

This will be done at the end of each of the first three quarters and for the final score, giving us a total of 12 winners!

WHAT ARE THE PAYOUTS?
Following is the payout grid:
Image

HOW DID I GET STUCK WITH THESE CRAPPY NUMBERS?
I randomly filled the names into the grid. After I had done so, I sent a copy of the grid with the names filled in to Ice for safe keeping. Then, Fatima was kind enough to generate two sets of random numbers from 0 - 9 to be used on the side and top of the grid. She sent me the numbers, and I then applied the random numbers to the chart...
So, to answer the question, IT'S ALL RANDOM!

See... It's SO SIMPLE
BUT, if you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or simply post them in the thread :D

So as promised... You just have to sit back and do nothing to win in this edition of SUPER BOWL SQUARES

Olympics, Day Eight, and half way over!

Today was a weird day where you have potential setup for future medals, without actually achieving medals, and then tons of replays and segments. It's also the day before the Super Bowl, as NBC will constantly remind you of every five minutes. So today is really just for those who want to know what happened today. But I guess that's everyday really, so maybe today was just a normal day, who knows. Welcome!

By the way, US Figure Skating said it will accept donations and gifts in cryptocurrency. Now that it has crashed? Sure, take it all! I'll send you a few billion in Shiba. And tomorrow they will have that doping hearing on Kamila Valieva. The NY Post is like "take a chill pill" on it all, but if your the one writing articles on it, why blame me?

I'd also like to talk about that panda mascot. Am I the only one who is creeped out by this thing? I know the Chinese love it and the thing is sold out over there which is funny since they make them themselves, so I don't know, that seems weird to me for some reason. I would get it if WE had a shortage. I don't think I would personally know it was a panda if they didn't tell me. It's name is Bing Dwen Dwen and I'll post a picture below.

Actually now that I'm saying it, I have one of those dumb blue beret hats from the 2002 Salt Lake City games, so who am I to judge!

Mens Curling is not doing to well right now. The lost to Canada tonight and are 2-3, and Canada is now 3-2. The Mens team in 2018 was as low as 2-4 before kicking it into gear, so who knows, maybe they will go on another run soon. It was a fun game to watch though, even if Canada outplayed us.

Due to a snow delay in the evening they got so desperate for something to show they had to do reruns and then finally wised up and switched to Women's curling on NBC, USA vs Sweden. I have no idea who won but the US Women moved to 3-1 with a loss earlier to Great Britain. Not gonna lie, curling is fun to watch now. Watch a five minute video on Youtube on how it's played and check it out. I will also note that most Sweden's also speak perfect English, so they have the language advantage as they know what our team is saying but not the other way, and strategy is everything. Or so my overly suspicious brain says.

Mens 10K Sprint took place, or as we call it, "Another event you can fast forward through". 100 plus guys, 30 seconds starts, twice around two shooting stations, five shot and a penalty loop in play. America didn't figure into it much, I think Jake Brown was 36th, and so it was Norway with the gold followed by France and Norway again. Chinese actors doted the stands waving red and blue flags. Way to sell that illusion China! Why they don't fill them up completely though I will never understand.

I did learn that if you win this and your French, your team will pick you up and give you a celebratory toss into the air, as they showed for Quentin Fillon Maillet from the 20K Biathlon. Sure, why not. That's probably some Ye old French thing dating back to jousting or something? And then it's cold enough that those who allow the saliva to drip out of there mouths end up with this long nasty, gnarly looking saliva snot beard just hanging there like six inches long! That is some gross stuff going on in this event.

Also, and I just have to say this. It is fascinating that they all had to fly into China with a rifle. I doubt you could do that otherwise. Right? Do people fly to China to hunt? And if so, what do they hunt? The deadliest game? Me? Oh!

Women's 4x5km Cross Country Relay, two laps each. It was Russian, German, and then Sweden. NBC did not care enough to tell you how we did in that moment, but we got 6th! So that's not to bad!

In the Evening the finished up Women's Skeleton. If you watched the daytime telecast, then you knew that the Germans got gold, because once again, for like everyday now, they ruined it by letting us needlessly know that Germany swept Luge and Skeleton for the gold Thanks NBC!

Those Skeleton helmets are super cool looking though. I posted one below.

Katie Uhlaender in her 5th and probably final Olympics got 6th this year. As you may remember, she lost the bronze in Sochi in 2014 to Russian doper Elena Nikitina by 0.04 seconds. Russia had 13 medals stripped from those games, but somehow got back 9, including Elena's. Katie used to be a weightlifter, and Elena was doping, so, is that really important for belly sledding? Strength? How can that be?

They also did Mens Large Hill Ski Jumping. None of the Americans made the final thirty, and it was Norway, Japan, and Germany. Yawn!

In Mens long track 500M, Jordan Stolz looked great and went under 35 seconds. Then China's flag bearer Gao Tingyu, the first to ever win a Gold for China in Long Track Speed Skating went, and set a new record. I guess the guy is under a lot of pressure from his 2018 fame and the expectations to keep that going here in these games. He was really sweating it up on the sidelines as about another dozen skaters went! I thought he was going to pass out! His time held up though and he will stand on top of the podium for the second straight year, followed by Korea and Japan.

Women's Team Pursuit was on the menu, with the Men on Sunday. Three skaters following each other for six laps, four fastest teams in the finals. We were not in this, and I honestly don't think we even had a team at the Olympics at all for this event. That is how badly we now suck at skating. Japan set a WR and will face off against Ruuushiaaa, and Canada who was just .36 behind Japan, will go against powerhouse Netherlands. I'm kind of excited to see who wins. Who am I this week?

The tried to start and wrap up Mens Giant Slolom, but it didn't go down as planned. They all did the first run on a dark cold mountain covered in four inches of fresh powder and low visibility. I have no idea how they can see that blue line to guide them. Wild hair River Radamus, pic below, came in 8th, Tommy Ford 19th and Ryan Cochran Siegle who got the Silver in the Super G did not finish for some reason. So were we were looking good and we were going to see the finals, and then the mountain known as Ice River got hit really bad. That whole joint was originally just man made snow but by 10PM my time they had freaking snowplows out there moving stuff around. People with shovels and snowblowers and everything. They were on a five hour delay and had to go to reruns and everything else so I guess we will see it when we see it.

The evening had two big events. It was night one of Pairs Ice Dancing and America is definitely in this! Tonight they did the Rhythm Dance and Sunday after the Superbowl we will get the Freeskate. They had to pick a theme and USA's Hawayek and Baker danced to Donna Summer and got a 74.58 and are in 11th, so there done. Madison Chock and hubby Evan Bates got 84.14 and are in fourth, and Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue danced to Janet Jackson and are in third with 87.13 and the Russian's are in second with 88.85 and the French Papadakis and Cizeron have a 90.38. Very tight race, particularly for silver and bronze, but if the French get a few falls, who knows.

Oh yea, Canada's Piper Gilles and Canada's Paul Poirier danced to Elton John and wore the Brady Bunch variety hour outfits? Wild stuff! Good for them! There in 6th I think. Pic below.

The best of the evening though is the new event Monobob. It's just like two man and four man, but with one man. Or wo-man in this case. They have four heats and twenty advance, but there is only twenty this time around so all twenty will go four times. The USA has two, or 10% of the field and they are both looking good. Elana Meyers Taylor tied for third on her first run and is fourth overall after two. Newly minted American and former Canadian Kaillie Humphries is a beast and took first in both her heats and is pretty amazing at this.

I really think this soapbox derby on Ice is going to take off in the next four years. It's really fun to watch. Even more so then normal bobsledding. The "car" is small and light and you have to do everything. Drive and brake yourself, and it's really more like driving on ice then anything you have ever seen. And it's so new that every athletes turn has record potential. So for instance, the Korean went first, so BOOM, new Olympic record. Then China went, beat her time, so BOOM, new Olympic record. So that means right now Humphries has the record by being in first, and that makes it even more interesting to watch. But I also think the name sucks, Monobob... and I think that's why no one is doing it right now. Like there was this stigma that it was a dumb event, but now that everyone is going to see how fun it is to drive these things on your own, I'll bet dollars to donuts that it explodes between now and Italy in 2026. I mean if I was younger and looking for a sport, I would 100% want to do this!

They also did a piece on Humphries and how she left Canada because she felt coaches were not treating her right and got married to an American and is now here doing Gods work for us, so Yea! She already has two golds and a bronze from past games so she's really good, and she's tatted to the nines as well, so check it a pic below of her if you want.

Like I said this was a very low key basic day. Lot's of stuff that didn't concern the USA or just setting up stuff for future days. And with the snowy conditions on the mountain, we got lots of reruns of stuff including the super awesome Mixed Cross Finals. If you didn't watch my vids of that from yesterday, go do it! Baumgartner still kills me to watch! Not only at the end when he is about to lose his sanity watching Lindsey on her run, but even at the start of his run, he has like that Vietnam 1000 yard stare. Like a man who has seen things. Deep things. Dark things. The Abyss! I was really hoping they would interview those two. What a crime that NBC is such garbage and didn't show more of the women's cross to put Lindsey's Gold and this race into better perspective. Check out the peacock app. I'm not sure what is on the free version though.

So the Super Bowl is tomorrow. The DFW has nine players including Matt Stafford in it. Crazy! I can still remember following him when he was in high school here. Back when I took a paper, he made it in all the time during the football season. I mean, yeah, I love Joe Burrow and his underdog tale, but I have to root for the NFC and my boy Stafford. Got to do it. They say 184 million in the US will watch, and spend 14.6 billion on food and booze and decorations, as well as 32 million placing up to 8 billion in bets. So yup, were pretty crazy here. But then again, we all look forward to the commercials, which are there to sell us stuff, so it is who we are in America I guess. Have fun!

Bye
