Day Thirteen of the Chaos Figure Skating Olympics!

Chaos! Absolute Chaos!

So I have to say, these Olympics could use a few days off here and there. I know that is dumb to say, it's a none starter, but boy could I sure use one. It gets to be a lot. But, let's press on.

So once again, I'm dumb. I am looking at the info and I'm like Wow! Lot's of repeats from yesterday! I can just zip along! And I do, and I re watch the Russians final jump from yesterday's mens Aerial Finals, turns out he actually thought he had done enough to win. Like raised his fists up after his jump and everything. What a moron! Seriously. You did a quad to a quint. Grow up butt hole. So in the end he was lying on the ground pounding it in anger, like an douche. I don't know if I said this, but come 2026, everyone will have two quint flips for those games..

So then I start the right one and Yup! The did it again. Right out of the gate, they ruin the finals for Women's Figure Skating in a way I won't do for you. And listen, while at times I have been playing it up for fun, this 100000000% pissed me off. :( :(

Who are they doing this for? Seriously? Who? If your not watching it, then you don't care. Just let the afternoon crowd know the results tomorrow. Why would you kick your own junk in like this? I don't get it! NBC payed like a billion bucks for these games. Why are they ruining them? It is mind blowing to me. There is no good reason for it. Needless to say I was super upset for the whole afternoon and worked some of that anger off at the gym later on because even driving there, I was still very upset. :(

Upset over figuring skating results. SMH. If 12 year old me was here, he would kick my ass!

So anyway, welcome!

It was Mens Nordic Combined Team Lg Hill 4x5km relay. All four men for each team take one jump and then every dude takes a 1.6 miles sprint. It is now officially the day that I feel like I have seen most of this before. I honestly can't tell the difference anymore. Ever been roped into that thing when your family is with some relatives and you have to do one of everything. Now just the kids, now the adults, now you with the grandparents, now the same but this person added, now add another, and another, and everyone takes 300 slightly different pictures? That is this! I don't understand what I watched yesterday at this point! :problem:

So they jumped and I went Zip! I was so over it already. It's just so dumb! So NBC dropped in at the third leg, and full discloser, they would show some more in late night, but I was fully emotionally divested so I am just going with my original afternoon thoughts.

So out of the Jump it was Austria, Norway, Germany, Japan, and France. The USA is 7th and two full minutes back on the start. SMH. It might as well be an hour.

In the 3rd leg it was Austria holding onto that lead, then Norway, Japan, and Germany. But by the time we come into the final exchange it is now Norway, Japan Austria and Germany in that order. Japan and Austria were ten second behind, but Germany was like 30 and they were already counting them out. At least for first. It should come as no surprise that being 30 seconds behind Norway at this point is like spotting 30 seconds to Bolt in the 100. I mean unless space aliens abduct them, Germany is not getting Gold.

Norway just kept that lead but the other three fought it out hard! Germany slowly closed that 20 second gap on Japan and Austria who had the lead for most of the race, until Norway s Oftebro and Graabak took over or course. But now Germany was seriously challenging them! Norway would cross about a minute ahead of the pack. No problems for them there. But it was quite the chaotic finish at the end. All three jockeyed for position coming into the final stretch, Germany surges ahead, Japan and Austria fight it out, and as Germany took the silver, the Japanese surprise everyone by beating Austria by four seconds for the Bronze. Good show!

Norway of course was ecstatic at the finish. They rattled off some numbers. Like third team gold in these races? Graabak has second gold of these games, six Olympic medals overall. It's hard to keep up with Norway on this. They just win everything!

BTW as the three were fighting for silver and bronze, you could see someone just starting their fourth lap. Probably China as they finished about 14 minutes back. Terrible! The USA took six at 2.22 back, so if they had better jumpers, who knows? Maybe next time!

We got a Mikaela Shiffrin repeat bla, bla, bla. You know what sucks for skiing is, for better or worse, you at least can finish your event. Like you can fall and get up. Skiers can't do that. You just get that DNF and your done. Take the ski of shame buddy! It sucks. And every Olympics has a GOAT, but they also have a Goat. Small G, and it's that person who dramatically under performs. I see at least on every time, but not like this. This is the GOAT of being a Goat. I genuinely feel bad for her. I hope she can take the next four years and shake it off. :)

Women's Freestyle ski Cross happened. They said it is like a cross between Motocross, roller derby and speed skating. Is that why they call it Cross? Hmmm? Not sure. Also, I guess I 100% didn't realize I was watching women? Seriously. I even remarked how effeminate some of these dudes faces were behind the masks. And then later on when i watched the Mens event again late at night, It took me so long to realize it was not a repeat where they were just showing more of the Women's cross. I was so confused today. Like I said, it is all blurring together at times.

So it was the Semi's. Out of eight, we have four Canadians! Crazy! But not all can go through. In the first heat of two, we got 3 Canadians and one from Sweden. They all hung tough and no falls, but Sweden went out quick and got the easy win with Canadian Marielle Thompson getting second and through to the final as well.

In Heat two we had Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and Canada. Germany fell behind quick with the Swiss in the lead. Then the Aussie fell back and Germany tried to make ground and Canada followed Switzerland close behind. Then the top three started to leave Australia behind as all three stayed close to the end. It was a photo finish, all three side by side. Germany and Switzerland across first and Canada shakes a third player in this event. Like the last one they had.

FYI, apparently in Freestyle Cross, it is first body part across. Not ski. So everyone sticks out an arm at the end. Not a good sport to have short arms in let me tell you!

In the Small final, the three Canadians smoked the Aussie hard and left her in the dust. Yea Canada.

In the large final we had Sweden, Swiss, Germany and Canada at the start. Sweden took the lead with the Swiss and Germany fighting for second. Canada falls back for a while and looks bad for half the race. Then they surge ahead and now it's a show. Kind of. Canada tries hard, but at the end it was too little to late. Sweden never relents and they go Sweden with the Gold, Canada Silver, Switzerland with the bronze, and Germany out in the cold.

But wait! There is a lengthy review! :o

And there is talk of foul play by Canada. Did Canada "cheat" there way to a silver. Terrible!

But nope, it was the Swiss. The Swiss skier hit the German skiers ski which threw them off balance a little, and gets the Yellow card and now Germany gets third with the bronze. Crazy!

We get an Erin Jackson interview. Just some back and forth, but we did find out that she was at first an inline skater, which is interesting, and that made me wonder why no Inline skating at the Summer Olympics? I'll bet that would be some wild stuff when it comes to sprinting. Maybe some day.

Ever seen Prayer of the Roller Boys? This film is B level fun! It's a silly dystopian flick heavily featuring inline skating. Like a world where that is what everyone does. I so loved this movie as a kid! Dumb fun! :D

Mens Half Piper Qualifier with the Women's' finals tonight. It was 23 to start, 12 would qualify, two runs each. Of those it was the USA with four in, Canada three, New Zealand two, France and Swiss one each, but there not gonna win this. Like would put money on it!

Of the Americans, Aaron Blunk is the best of the twelve that qualified. First was a 26.25 but then he put up a high of 92.00 He's pretty clutch and a a miracle. In Oct of 2020 he washed out on a run, and had six broken ribs, fractured pelvis, lacerated Kidney and a bruised heart. Amazing comeback.

Birk Irving in third. He's the youngest and put up 83.25 and 89.75.

Alex Ferreira back in seventh but he can get it done. He puts up a 84.25 and just cruises his second to save it for tomorrow

David Wise is the best by far. A gold in both 2014, and 2018 so he's the front runner in reality. Half effort got him in at forth with an 89.00 high.

Nico Porteous of New Zealand is the reigning world champ though, and Canada got in at 5th, 6th, and 8th. These guys can all go huge and it should be fun to watch so I'm looking forward to it since we are in this one.

So what, was it skiing first, then skateboarding, and then snowboarding, and then snowboarders started a snow half pipe like the skaters, and then skiers did it? Hmmm?

They also said that someone "invented a trick."? Can you invent anything like a trick? Does anyone really do a new guitar cord? Isn't it just parts finally put together like Legos. Discovered maybe. Not sure. Sculptors say that the sculpture is in the clay already and you just remove the excess.

I don't know! I'm all like weird today so whatever man! Sorry!

It was the Women's 1000m speed skating finals. That's pairs side by side.

FYI, we had like one medal between 2010 and 2014 maybe? But they were not individual and so we have like our first Mens individual in 12 years and our first individual in women's in 20 years so far coming into this event. Something like that. Or basically, we are not good at skating anymore. Or... in a rebuild maybe! I like the sound of that better! :)

So we had two in out of thirty. American Kimi Goetz went against Norway late. We won! Yeah!

Nope, we skated against Jutta Leerdam and she likes almost slips and has to put a hand down to steady herself and still goes first over us and almost sets an Olympic record! Her and her skater husband are like huge Dutch stars on social media. I'll post a picture below. Leerdam is first and Goetz is third.

Legend Ireen Wust of the Netherlands takes her final skate ever and into third knocking Goetz off the podium.

Takagi of Japan skates against the ROC and crushes the Olympic record and into first.

Brittany Bowe finally goes against the ROC. Bowe was the one who gave up her spot to Erin earlier who won the Gold for us. Bowe dug deep and did her best and skates into third and got the bronze so yea for her! It ended up Japan, Dutch, and then USA. Yeah!

So now we will skip ahead to the Women's Freestyle Half Pipe finals. So how was it?

Lackluster. Unexcitingly presented. The coverage really sucked. In all fairness, Gu had this from the go and after what we all had just seen in the Women's figure Skating finals, how could it live up. It couldn't.

So it was 12 women, three runs each, and America had three coming on in. Brita Sigourney, Hanna Faulhaber, and Carly Margulies.

Brita Sigorney was our 32 year old Veteran btw. She did not have a good night. She had a fall, and a near fall and came in 10th.

Then there was Carly who looked good on her first run, and then a ski broke! Like throw it away! Not in half but the binding is all screwed up. Or fix it. I don't know. Don't listen to me on this. I have no idea! So she did not do well at all. 24.75, 1.75, and a 61.00. And she took 11th in the world. And is nothing like Guuuuuuuu! So the drop off is that big from 11th to the best is steep. She did have a torn Meniscus like two months ago though, and that should take like six to nine months to heal, and she did it in 30 days, sooooooo. Fast healer? Or uh.... Hmmmm. Not gonna say it out loud! LOL

OK HGH! Just saying! JMO!

So we go to Hanna the youngest at 17. She can go huge and high. 13 feet up! She was as high s 4th at one time but ended up in 6th. 85.25, 84.5, and 19.00 on her final run. But she is young so give her time, she might get there in a few years. Lot's of hope here! :)

Kelly of Estonia who also was doing three events like Gu, did not look as good as I would have thought. Butter then most, but kind of Booooriiing! Very Bla on her tricks IMO. She came in 4th and I forgot to add that she turned 20 yesterday. So she will be back in four years no doubt.

So it was Rachael Karker and Cassie Sharpe of Canada to try and get it done. They showed non of Cassie, but Karker looks great on her first two and had ski fall off on her third. Sharpe also put up big scores. But it was not enough. Sharpe with the Silver and Karker with the bronze.

And it was that lackluster. Gu is so much better and makes it look so easy in this event. And NBC just loves her! Like wants to have HERE baby! Just so in love with her. She got a 93.25, and a 95.25, and just took a trick-less run on her last as she already had the gold. Whatever!

But, all kidding aside, she is uh, kind of... not humble I will say? Like Gu loves her some Gu too. She was pretty arrogant sounding in her post interview. Like can you believe what I just did! She kept talking herself up. Pretty off putting. Just being honest. Gu was gushing for Guuuuuu. Is what it is I guess.

But you know what, I don't know, maybe I'm just over it, and her, and really over NBC's coverage of her, which isn't her fault, and today, and tomorrow, and 1000 years ago, and whatever. Maybe I have the bad attitude. Who knows. The interview clip is below. You decide for yourselves.

Mens freestyle cross. This came in last of the night. I was so over it all. And because I guess I kind of forgot those where women earlier, I thought this was a repeat showing for awhile with them also doing the Quarterfinals on up, and I as like, where are all the Canadians, and what is Italy doing here! :o

Real quick so we can move on. Some of these dudes have like dad bods. Not very athletic looking if you ask me. I think I could have done this. Who knows. Also, lone American was already gone and we have had only like 4 in this event ever, so I guess they did need me after all. And on the small final, the gate wouldn't open like three times. So that happened. And the final was The Swiss, the Swiss again, ROC and Sweden in that order the whole race. No one got past no one the whole time, and they finished in that order. Two Swiss and ROC for the bronze. Also, the Russian Sergey Ridzik now has the bronze in these games and 2018 and the Silver is the oldest in this event ever. So there you go!

WOMEN'S FIGURE SKATING GETS IT'S OWN POST!

Sooo, Mens Curling lost to Great Britain earlier in the day 8-4, in yet another disrespect from Great Britain. First no taxation without representation, then the War of 1812, and then Prince Harry moves here, and now this! Jerks! :o

So now it's on to the bronze game between us and fellow loser Canada who lost to Sweden 5-3. So who won? Let me check! Last time I was watching it was in the sixth round. What is it now? Hmmm

And we lost! 5-8! Sigh! We get nothing! Terrible!

And you all have a great day! Bye!

Women's Figure Skating definitely deserve to have its own post(s). The drama is simply ridiculous! :(

Imo, Trusova is the epitome of a sore loser. Apparently she thought (or someone told her) landing 5 quad jumps = Gold Medal but apart from the technical score, there is also the presentation score, and honestly Anna was the better one in the latter. Even if she really does think she deserves the gold more than Anna, she should not have thrown a tantrum in public like that. Of course, a lot of people might say "she's just a child" and I agree, then perhaps she should not have participated in an adult game. All they did was undermined the artistry finesse and elegance of FS with those difficult jumps. :(

Here's Trusova giving the finger at the podium, albeit subtlely. She has guts, I'll give it to her. LOL.

Image

And below is Anna Shcherbakova after the final ranking is announced. I don't think I have seen a sadder Olympic Gold Medalist since I started watching OG.

I was afraid it wouldn't all fit tonight in one post, so here you go!

So let's do this. Women's figure Skating! What a crapshow of a finale!

So apparently after Peggy Flemming won the gold back in 1968 for the United States, the American women would podium for the next 11 Olympics. But not for 16 more years have we been on it, coming into these games. Like 2002 Gold, 2006 silver, and then nothing. Longest drought since the Olympics began. Would that change tonight for the US! Let's find out! :D

So 22 year old Karen Chen starts off for us. Poland at the top right now. Pink outfit. Near fall. Falls on a jump. Finishes. Not happy in the kiss and tell, and into 5th and ends up at 13th.

(I wrote my honest feelings here about Karen Chen and then deleted it. It's not flattering and I'll just save it for the end of these games. There is enough kerosene here tonight for two dumpster fires as is!)

American Mariah Bell 25 years old takes the ice. Lovely Maroon outfit. She does good, no falls, is happy and pleased with her performance and into first. She knows it won't stand, but she has a great attitude and I like it. Goes into 1st and ends up at 11th. :)

Korean Ye-Lim goes. Great. She's happy. Into first.

Now it's our last American Alysa Liu. Sixteen, braces, big smile, happy all the time, fun, light blue outfit, skates great, super tired, super happy, left it all out there like you should and I like it! Will she improve though and be competitive in four years? Nope! Probably not! :( She couldn't complete a full triple, so I doubt it. But she seems like a sweet kid and I wish her the best. She goes into 1st, American Mariah Bell third, and finishes 8th. So far, so good. No problems here. None for us! Everything is good!

Belgiums Loena Hendrickx goes. Her coach is her brother. She does well, into 2nd, and finishes 7th. No Belgium women had ever done better then 16th, so good for her!

Now the final group.

Korean "You Young". 17. Has no triple Axel or quad. Slightly sloppy but still good. Better then everyone behind her, but not those in front. Just five points over American Alysa Liu. Takes over first.

Japanese Wakaba Higuchi age 21. Triple Lutz plus a triple toe loop, and fall. Otherwise good. Nothing special. Barely into first with a 214.44

Now we really begin!

Alexandra Trusova age 17. Dyes her hair that unnatural red that is so popular. She is the queen of the technical. Five quads! A quint of quads! Does two quad lutzes back to back! Does a quad lutze 3 toe something, and that alone is 20 points! She is all like Quaaaaaad! But no artistry and she has a few bobbles. The tech of Higuchi is 72.67. Trusova's is 106.16!

Into first big time with a score of 251.73 compared to Higuchi's 214.44!

Japan's Kaori Sakamoto age 21. Has no quad or even a triple axel. What! :o They call her the extra credit girl. 31% over base on average. 10 points just on execution. And fast. And sharp. And it was hard to watch any of it. Why? She skated to a piece from some women's empowerment documentary in English. What? I'm talking about talking. Like skating to someone talking to music. That is freaking insane! I mean you can't listen to it, right? If your a judge, you have to pay attention to her, not what is being said over a crappy speaker. Or in there case, headphones, which I'm sure does make it worse. It is so dumb! And she I guess even admitted that it wasn't really her, which means someone else found it and talked her into it? :wtf: Bad move IMO, but whatever, maybe I'm just in a bad mood today. But extra credit Sakamoto's skating does impress and she is into second with two to go with a score of 233.13. Good for her! Her tech for comparison again to Trusova is 80.59'

So now just two to go, and it's Russian Anna Shcherbakova age 17 as well. She will need to skate 3 points better then she ever has to move into first over teammate Trusova. She nails it! She is graceful, and flawless and has a 99.9 tech of her own due to those several quads. She gets a 255.95 and goes into first just four points over Trusova. Great job!

So it is Shcherbakova with 255.95, Trusova with 251.73, and Japanese Sakamoto with 233.13 and Kamila Valieva takes the Ice! How did she do!

Horrible! She skated to Bolero which is always nice and had 3 quads planned, and normally skates very beautifully. Not tonight though. 3 axle jump and a fall. then a bobble. Then another fall right away. Then hits a few. And then on her last quad, another fall! When it was all finally done she was like F it all with a hand wave. She knew it had been a disaster! But she tries to be graceful about it all. She does. Honest. And then she skates off the ice to the side to exit, and her coaches start ripping her! Like right away. Like an asshole would! :o :(

And people are shouting out her name in support loudly from the crowd over and over, and this starts adding to the chaos. And now it all really hits her and she is in tears! And she is emotionally breaking down before the score is even in! She doesn't want to look! She is in 4th! Off the podium all together! 224.09 Nine back from Japanese skater Sakamoto! She is devastated! Now it all goes into Fing chaos! Like a real crap show for like fifteen plus minutes. Everyone is so frantic, and the cameras are everywhere! Right behind the curtain, Trusova is upset. And then Sakamoto is crying. And the adults are going nuts for various reasons! Who's in charge here!

I'm serious. It was crazy! Now Trusova is in tears and is super upset. Over Kamila? That is what I thought. And Sakamoto is so upset looking, and that she is on her knees sobbing into the couch. What! What the F is going on here! Why is she so upset? For Kamila? And poor, Anna Shcherbakova, the Gold medal winner, just sits there in the chaos. :( No one congratulates her. No hugs. No high fives. Nothing! For like fifteen plus minutes! :( She has just lived her dream! A gold medal at the Olympics! And no one gives two shits about it! :( Everyone is crying and screaming, and upset and sobbing, and fighting and frantic and the camera is cutting all around and the color commentators are trying to talk about it all and how unfair it is to everyone there. For Kamila. For the winners. For ever other girl there. For us the viewers. For the Olympics itself.

I mean Tera and Johnny genuinely feel bad for Kamila, as they should, as clearly this media circus got to her and she is only 15, and me, I would have quit after the second fall. Like at fifteen, I would have been so out of there. It's amazing they can all finish. Not me!

Seriously! I would have bailed at that age!

But she shouldn't even be there! And that is obvious in the chaos, and it is like almost 15 minutes of this chaos! It was truly insane to watch as they tried to pull it all together. My blood pressure is going up again just typing about it!

Whew! Deep breath everyone! Deep!

So finally they pull it together a bit. It turns out that Trusova, the silver, is actually upset about getting silver! What!

She doesn't give a shit about Kamila! :o She aint upset for her teammate at all! She felt she deserved the gold! She goes something like "Everyone has Gold but me! I'm not first, I'm not third, what do you want from me!" And she does not want to take the podium to get her bear. They have to really spend time calming her down! Crazy!

But hey, a quint of quads. I get it!

And Sakamoto of Japan, who has tears dripping off her cheeks! :(

She is happy! What!

She was on her knees sobbing for like fifteen minutes as people hung over her giving her hugs. Those were her happy tears! Holy crap! What does she look like upset! Crazy as F!

And finally, after way, way way to long, people start to congratulate poor Anna Shcherbakova and give her hugs and slowly she starts to cheer up too. :) Even though they all ruined her big day, and she did nothing wrong. I really feel bad for her, but when they all "finally" took the podium for bears, she was really happy and I'm glad. :)

Whew! What a freaking crazy show! I was frantically taking notes on my phone as I watched. Insanity I tell you!

Nothing but sheer insanity for like fifteen minutes or so! Great entertainment! Human drama at it's finest! We have Kremlin intrigue. Doping, a con game, wonderful skating, a meltdown, chaos, twists and turns and fake outs and happiness at the end. For some. Amazing!

Obviously they have to change this. They can't let a country like Russia keep gaming them like this. This is nuts. This should not have been like this. I mean yea, two of the three were actually crying for other reasons, LOL, but her presence at the end, and why she failed, and was upset, and created that weird mood, was her very presence and well... They got to fix this. This can never happen again! :wtf:

BUT, they should also in a day or two calm, down, and not make any extreme rash changes in the heat of the moment. Fix what is broke, no more no less, after all there is no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water when it is all said and done. JMO.

But it was entertaining!

And Ice Skating? Skating on Ice? What? The hubris of us to skate on ice at all! Is it human arrogance at play? Or is that just a thought from crazy old me. Just me? Hmmmm

Bye!

I couldn't watch any of the sports because of some outside commitments yesterday but it sounds like I missed a ton!

Just from the second-hand reports and reading an article about an IOC judge expressing empathy for the fifteen year old caught in such controversies...

Seriously, mental health is important and I worry for the girl. Same goes for her other team mates! Like it sounded as if she purposely lost so that there would be a medals ceremony. And going from that one pic where the Bronze medalist looked pleased beyond words! And then the dejected looking Gold medalist. This is just terrible!

It's like having your wedding ruined, your big day, but you still go on with it. Or when someone steals your thunder by announcing THEIR baby news at your special event. You can't do it again! It just wouldn't be the same... and they're so young too. I swear, there should be some puppies in the sitting room while they wait for the scores to reduce the amount of stress one's going through... and to top it off, K's sad excuse for a coach was putting salt into the would with so many useless questions, instead of providing her some sort of comfort.

However, I do not feel any sympathy whatsoever for that sore loser Silver medalist. Just spray paint it if you want Gold so badly. Also, that dye job is atrocious, just like that X-men Phoenix remake that I did not watch.
